Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan receives Professor Mitsunari Miho (Nara Women's University, Japan)

On March 2, 2018, Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan met with Professor Mitsunari Miho (Vice Rector of Nara Women's University, Japan) to discuss prospects for cooperation between the two universities.

Professor Mitsunari Miho, a Japanese expert, participated in teaching at the Department of Japanese Studies of the University on "Gender Studies in Japan" during the 2017-2018 academic year. This activity was part of the project "Specialized Lectures on Japanese Studies" at the Department of Japanese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, funded by the Japan Foundation (2006 to present).

She is a specialist in world history research from a gender perspective, LGBTI rights advocacy, and comparative legal culture regarding family and gender. She is also a member of several research groups: the Japan Council on Science, the Society for Gender Law Research, the Japan Society for Gender Studies, the Society for Gender History Research, and the Society for Comparative Family History Research.

During the meeting, Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan thanked Professor Mitsunari Miho and his Japanese colleagues for their interest and participation in teaching Japanese Studies students, as well as for contributing to the development of Japanese Studies at the University.

The Vice Rector also shared: Over the past decade, the department's staff has made many efforts to develop the unit into one of Vietnam's leading reputable research and training institutions in Japanese studies, and at the same time, a place that provides in-depth advice to various levels and sectors on issues related to Japan. Students majoring in Japanese studies are welcomed in the labor market. The department has a diverse system of materials for research and teaching in Japanese studies and regularly organizes seminars, research projects, and publishes specialized books on Japanese studies every year.

Following lectures on Gender Studies by Japanese experts, the school's leadership expressed a desire for collaboration between the two sides to compile and publish in-depth textbooks on this topic. Additionally, experts from Japan and Vietnam could cooperate to exchange experiences in comparative research on Gender Studies.

Professor Mitsunari Miho expressed her gratitude for the thoughtful and enthusiastic welcome from the Department of Japanese Studies and the University. She also shared information about her ongoing research project on "Gender from an Asian Perspective" and suggested that collaboration between the two sides on this topic is entirely possible.

Furthermore, Nara Women's University and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities are two universities with strengths in social sciences and humanities research. Therefore, in addition to collaborative research on Gender Studies or Japanese Studies, the two universities will explore ways to further promote cooperation on a larger scale and in more academic fields.
