On March 7, 2018, Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) met and worked with Professor Prayoon Limsuk (Rector of Rachapat Phetchaboon University, Thailand) to discuss cooperation in developing Southeast Asian studies.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, lecturers from Rachapat Phetchaboon University, journalists, and representatives from Thai businesses.

During the meeting, Professor Prayoon Limsuk expressed his pleasure at visiting and working at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – a leading university in Vietnam specializing in social sciences and humanities. Professor Prayoon Limsuk proposed collaboration between the two universities to establish a Vietnamese language teaching department at Rachapat Phetchaboon University.

"Currently, I see that Vietnamese businesses are developing very strongly in Petchaboon. If more Thais know Vietnamese, this would be a very good condition for developing tourism and promoting cultural exchange between the two countries," said Professor Prayoon Limsuk.

Professor Pham Quang Minh agreed with the proposal and stated: “The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is pleased to have the opportunity to cooperate with Rachapat Phetchaboon University and is ready to send a delegation to Rachapat Phetchaboon University to gather information and promote the establishment of a Vietnamese Language Department. Currently, the Vietnamese language is becoming increasingly popular in Thailand, and at least 10 universities in Thailand are offering Vietnamese language programs.” The Rector also believes that the close cultural similarities, customs, and lifestyles between Vietnam and Thailand are favorable conditions for cooperation between the two sides.

At the end of the meeting, representatives from both universities expressed their desire to soon conduct collaborative activities in areas of common interest.
