Students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities participate in the "Youth Committee" Project of the National Assembly Office

On the morning of January 10, 2015, students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities participated in the Youth Committee's explanation session within the framework of the "Young Parliamentarians" Project at the National Assembly Office. Attending this session were representatives of the National Assembly Office, the National Assembly Office's Information Department, representatives of the National Assembly's Committee for Social Affairs, the National Assembly Library, and representatives of lecturers and students from 4 universities participating in the Project.

Within the framework of the “Young Parliamentarians” Project between the Office of the National Assembly and the British Embassy, ​​more than 50 students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-US), Hanoi Law University, Open University, Academy of Journalism and Communication participated in the Youth Committee’s explanation session onPolicy and legal issues for students after graduation.

This is the first time the National Assembly's explanation session model has been organized with the participation of students, with the aim of increasing students' interest in the activities of the National Assembly, as well as promoting the political activism of young people to contribute to the making of practical legal policies, linked to the needs and aspirations of Vietnamese youth and students.

With the aim of enhancing knowledge for students participating in the Project's activities, the Information Department of the National Assembly Office organized training sessions.on “Organizational structure and operation of the Nationalities Council and Committees of the National Assembly”and "How to conduct a hearing at the Committee on Social Affairs” for lecturers and students of 4 universities. The activities of the Youth Committee group are supported and advised by staff and lecturers of the Institute of Policy and Management, Faculty of Management Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities during the time students participate in the Project.

After more than 3 months of training (October-December 2014), a group of students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities actively participated in the Presentation Session as representatives of the National Assembly's Committee on Social Affairs and National Assembly deputies participating in questioning the Ministers of relevant Ministries on policy and legal issues regarding employment for good students after graduation.

In this session, students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were assigned: 5 students played the roles of Chairman, Vice Chairman and other members of the Committee on Social Affairs sitting at the chair's table to control the session, 7 students played the roles of National Assembly delegates participating in the questioning, 2 students from Hanoi Law University played the roles of Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Minister of Education and Training, 1 student from the Open University played the role of Minister of Home Affairs, 1 student from the Academy of Journalism and Communication played the role of Minister of Finance answering questions from National Assembly delegates.

The questions revolved around the responsibility of the Ministries in the face of the high unemployment rate among university graduates, or those working in the wrong field; policies for high school graduates who go to vocational training; mechanisms for recruiting workers at state agencies and public service units; reforming financial policies to support job creation for young engineers and bachelors...

Opening Remarks of the Presentation Session,Dr. Nguyen Si Dung, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Office, said that the explanation session and the Young Parliamentarians project will greatly help in disseminating information about the National Assembly, promoting the active participation of society in policy-making and law-making, and at the same time preparing a team of talented young parliamentarians.

As the leader of the Project's activities, Mr. Bui Sy Loi, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Social Affairs, assessed at the end of the explanation session:"The students participating in today's explanation session played their roles very well, just like a real working session of our Committee. They were very confident and composed while conducting the session, reporting on the situation, answering questions, giving reasons and solutions... The success of this session makes us believe in the working capacity of the future generation of parliamentarians."

 

Student Nguyen Xuan Nghia, leader of the Youth Committee of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, said:“My fellow students and I hope to participate in more activities of the Young Parliamentarians Project and hope that in the future we will become politicians who actively participate in the country's policy-making process.”It can be said that the practical activities of the Project are increasingly attracting the attention of relevant agencies and university students..

The activities of the Youth Committee of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have received many positive responses from the Office of the National Assembly. The project will continue with a Leadership Skills training course organized by the British Council for students participating in the Project (late January 2015) and a National Assembly Session of the Youth Committee, scheduled to be held in March 2015.
