Strengthening cooperation in training and scientific exchange with Taiwanese literary partners.

With the support of Professor Tran Ich Nguyen, Director of the Center for Social Sciences and Humanities at National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan), from March 1st to 3rd, 2017, a delegation from the Board of Directors and the Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU Hanoi), visited and signed several cooperation agreements on training, student and staff exchange, research cooperation, and translation with Taiwanese partners. The delegation included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Vice Rector of the University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Thach - Head of the Faculty of Literature, and Dr. Nguyen Thu Hien - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Literature.

On the morning of March 1st, the delegation visited National Cheng Kung University in Tainan City. There, Vice President Huang Ying-tuan held discussions with Vice President Chen Dong-yang and Professor Chen Yi-yuan, Director of the Center for Social Sciences and Humanities at National Cheng Kung University, agreeing on a plan to promote cooperation in training and research across various fields of social sciences and humanities between the two institutions in the future. During the visit, Associate Professor Pham Xuan Thach signed an agreement on cooperation in student and staff exchange and the organization of translation and literary publishing activities with the Department of Chinese Literature at National Cheng Kung University. The delegation also discussed with Professor Jiang Wei-wen (Director of the Center for Vietnamese Studies) the possibility of supporting short-term internships for students majoring in Han Nom Studies at National Cheng Kung University.

Associate Professor Pham Xuan Thach, Head of the Faculty of Literature, and Professor Lam Trieu Thanh, Head of the Faculty of Chinese Literature, signed a cooperation agreement between the two faculties.

Later that afternoon, the delegation visited and worked with the Tainan City Department of Culture. There, Vice Rector Hoang Anh Tuan discussed with Director Ye Ze-shan the possibility of selecting some representative literary works from Tainan to translate into Vietnamese and publish in Vietnam, aiming to promote the image of Tainan in particular (Taiwan in general) to the Vietnamese community. The delegation also visited and discussed with Director Liao Zhen-fu of the Tainan Literature Museum about the possibility of scientific cooperation. The Museum Director will consider collaborating with the University to organize exhibitions showcasing Tainan's literary achievements in Hanoi, as well as translating some Vietnamese works in the fields of literature, history, and cultural studies to serve the Vietnamese community in Taiwan.

On March 2nd, the delegation visited and worked with partners in Taichung City. There, the delegation met with the Director of the Department of Culture, Wang Chih-cheng, to discuss potential cooperation. Both sides agreed to explore possibilities for translating representative Taiwanese literary works for introduction in Vietnam, and to organize cultural exchange activities between Taichung City and the university. On the same day, the delegation also visited and held discussions with the Head of the Department of Chinese Literature at National Chung-hsing University.

On March 3rd, the delegation visited Kinmen University on Kinmen Island. There, Vice President Hoang Anh Tuan, on behalf of the University's Board of Directors, signed a cooperation agreement with Kinmen University to establish a comprehensive cooperative relationship between the two universities. Initially, the two universities will promote student and staff exchanges; the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will support Kinmen University in establishing a Vietnamese Studies program in Kinmen in the coming years. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Vice President Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized the cultural similarities and close historical ties between the two countries, expressing his desire to strengthen educational and scientific cooperation between the two universities: “The University of Social Sciences and Humanities can play a leading role in Kinmen University's 'southward expansion' efforts, as well as those of its Taiwanese partners in the future!”

Professor Tran Ich Nguyen has spent many years researching Vietnam in the fields of classical literature and ancient texts. He was formerly the Head of the Department of Chinese Literature, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan; Vice President of the International Asian Folklore Society; Secretary of the Chinese Folklore Society; Member of the Taiwan Narrative Studies Society; Secretary of the Chinese Classical Literature Research Society… Professor Tran Ich Nguyen has published 70 research papers in scientific journals, presented over 80 papers at conferences, and authored more than 50 monographs and specialized books. In Vietnam alone, Professor Tran Ich Nguyen has authored 6 books.monographsPublished in Vietnamese.

National Cheng Kung University is a research-oriented comprehensive university with a history of nearly 90 years, ranking among the top universities in Taiwan. Over the years, National Cheng Kung University has maintained close ties with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in various fields and at multiple levels. The two universities have organized numerous research seminars, exchanged faculty and students, and implemented various collaborative training programs.

Kinmen University was founded in 1992.As a multidisciplinary training institution, in addition to training in social sciences and humanities, the university also offers programs in engineering, management, and medicine. The university has a training scale of approximately 4500 students across all three levels of education: bachelor's, master's, and doctoral.
