
Professor Pham Quang Minh - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, delivered the opening speech for the training course.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Pham Quang Minh, the Rector of the University, shared the importance of training activities to enhance professional skills in teaching and research for the faculty. This activity is increasingly being prioritized by the University, especially in the context of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) choosing to focus on innovation in teaching as a key element in improving the quality of education in the coming academic years. Accordingly, the capacity of the faculty is a decisive factor in the quality of education and research. With this orientation, the Personnel Department has advised, proposed, and assisted the University in organizing many training courses for lecturers with diverse topics on research methods in social sciences and humanities, international publication experiences, how to write scientific papers, quantitative analysis in social sciences and humanities, and the application of data analysis software in research. The Rector urged the lecturers to foster creativity in the classroom and apply the most up-to-date knowledge in research to their professional activities.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh (Faculty of Sociology) is the lecturer for the training course.
The training course on data analysis and SPSS software application was divided into two classes, basic and advanced, taught by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tuan Anh (Faculty of Sociology) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Luot, with the participation of 70 lecturers. The basic class took place over 3 days, from August 2-4, 2019. The advanced class took place over 3 days, from August 9-11, 2019.

SPSS is statistical software used in social research, particularly in psychology, marketing, and sociology. SPSS provides a data management system and statistical analysis capabilities with a user-friendly graphical interface, using descriptive menus and simple dialog boxes. SPSS helps scientists process and analyze data, identify causes, and predict trends in their research.
