Welcoming the Iranian Ambassador to Vietnam

On April 27, 2016, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi) met and worked with Mr. Saleh Abidi, Ambassador of Iran to Vietnam, to discuss the development orientation of Iranian studies in Vietnam, as well as cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Iranian universities. Also attending the meeting was Ms. Luong Ngoc Vinh, Deputy Head of the Cooperation and Development Department.

Welcoming the Iranian Ambassador to Vietnam

Ambassador Saleh Abidi expressed his pleasure at being welcomed to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and acknowledged the University's efforts in promoting research and teaching on Persian culture and language. Based on the achievements already made, Ambassador Saleh Abidi hoped that the University would include the Persian Language Department in its official curriculum as an elective or compulsory subject, translate more important materials on Persian culture and language, and sign a new cooperation agreement between the University and Iranian universities, building upon the previous agreement signed in 2011. He also extended an invitation to Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh to visit Iran to learn about and share educational experiences between Vietnam and Iran.

Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh fully agreed with Mr. Saleh Abidi's proposals. In response, the Rector expressed gratitude to the Iranian Embassy for its support in training human resources, awarding scholarships, and contributing to promoting Persian culture and language to a large number of lecturers, staff, and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The Rector pledged to effectively utilize the trained human resources to further enhance the relationship between the University and Iranian universities. With the assistance of specialized units for training and research on Iran, such as the Iranian Studies Department and the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will certainly be a reliable address for disseminating Iranian history, culture, and language to Vietnamese people.

With 18 years of research on Iran, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has organized 4 photo exhibitions, 5 seminars, 5 books and 3 issues of a specialized journal on Iran, 3 talks about the people and country of Iran, 4 Persian language courses, and has also trained 6 master's and 3 bachelor's students in Iran. In addition, there was a visit and signing of a memorandum of understanding between former Rector Nguyen Van Khanh and 3 Iranian universities (Tehran University, Esfrahan University, Azad University and NXb SAMT), along with many film screenings and art performances at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi.
