On March 23, 2014, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received and worked with a delegation from the University of South Carolina (USA) led by Professor Paul Allen Miller (Rector of the School of Arts and Sciences). Also attending the meeting were representatives from the Faculty of Sociology, the Faculty of Psychology and the Office of International Cooperation and Training.

At the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh welcomed Professor Paul Allen Miller to visit the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as a prestigious and reliable social work training address in Vietnam. The Vice President proposed the implementation of cooperation between the University and the University of South Carolina in the fields of social work, political science and Chinese studies. In particular, the University has proposed 3 cooperation proposals with the University of South Carolina in the field of Social Work: coordinating to develop a PhD training program in Social Work, establishing a Center for training lecturers in Social Work in both research and training, and organizing for lecturers of the Faculty of Sociology to visit the University of South Carolina to learn from the partner's experience in order to better develop the field of Social Work.

Prof. Paul Allen Miller welcomed the proposals of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh and said that the University of South Carolina is very eager to cooperate with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the fields of social work such as dealing with population aging, elderly health care, community development, especially for poor and minority communities, mental health counseling for those in need, especially veterans... He hopes to welcome lecturers from the University to visit the University of South Carolina in the future and discuss more specific cooperation.

The University of South Carolina was founded in 1805 in Columbia - the capital of South Carolina with about 40,889 students and is one of the oldest universities in the United States.
