On March 23, 2014, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received and worked with a delegation from the University of South Carolina (USA) led by Professor Paul Allen Miller (Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences). Representatives from the Faculty of Sociology, the Faculty of Psychology, and the Office of International Cooperation and Training also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh welcomed Professor Paul Allen Miller to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, highlighting its reputation as a prestigious and reliable institution for social work training in Vietnam. The Vice-Rector proposed collaboration between the University and the University of South Carolina in the fields of social work, political science, and Chinese studies. Specifically, the University put forward three proposals for cooperation with the University of South Carolina in the field of Social Work: jointly developing a doctoral program in Social Work, establishing a center for training Social Work faculty in both research and training, and organizing visits for faculty members from the Sociology Department to the University of South Carolina to learn from their experience and further develop the field of Social Work.

Professor Paul Allen Miller welcomed the proposals from Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh and stated that the University of South Carolina is eager to cooperate with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in areas of social work such as addressing population aging, elderly care, community development, especially for poor and minority communities, and mental health counseling for those in need, particularly veterans. He hoped to welcome faculty members from the University of South Carolina to visit the University of South Carolina in the future and discuss more specific collaborations.

Founded in 1805 in Columbia, the capital of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina has approximately 40,889 students and is one of the oldest universities in the United States.
