This morning, September 18, 2009, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held its opening ceremony for the new academic year 2009-2010.

This morning, September 18, 2009, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held its opening ceremony for the new academic year 2009-2010.

Attending and sharing in the joy with numerous generations of staff, teachers, students, and trainees of the University were Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Giang - Vice Director of VNU Hanoi - along with representatives from many units inside and outside VNU Hanoi.

In his opening speech, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - the Rector of the University - affirmed the many achievements the University had made in the past academic year.

In the 2008-2009 academic year, the school's training programs were conducted according to plan and achieved good quality. The transition to credit-based training was implemented relatively synchronously and comprehensively; the development of majors and the expansion of training types were emphasized, such as dual degree programs and international joint training programs in the "2+2" format; training methods such as "3+1", "3.5+0.5", government agreement training, and short-term training were maintained and expanded. This was also the first year the school implemented enrollment and training in Linguistics with the goal of achieving international standards.

In postgraduate training, the scale and structure have undergone significant development and innovation. Specifically, the scale of postgraduate training has reached 26% of the total scale of regular training.

Student scientific research activities have also achieved very encouraging results. In 2008, at the Ministry of Education and Training level alone, there was 1 project that won first prize, 1 project that won second prize, 1 project that won third prize, and 3 projects that won consolation prizes; the school was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Ministry of Education and Training for outstanding achievements in the student scientific research movement.

Thanks to the aforementioned efforts of the faculty and students, at the end of the 2008-2009 academic year, many emulation titles were recognized and awarded to collectives and individuals in the school. In particular, the school had 4 collectives and 3 individuals who received Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister; 1 individual was awarded the Second Class Labor Medal, and 2 collectives and 6 individuals were awarded the Third Class Labor Medal. The school achieved the title of Excellent Labor Collective, received a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training, and was honored to receive the Emulation Flag and Certificate of Merit from Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The opening ceremony was also an occasion to honor many individuals and groups of university staff who had achieved outstanding results in the past academic year with numerous medals and certificates of merit from various levels. Professor Vu Minh Giang, Vice Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, presented the Vietnam National University, Hanoi's Emulation Flag to the university's leadership representatives.

Furthermore, the school also announced the decision to award two top-scoring students in the C and D blocks of the recent university entrance exam, 61 students from various cohorts who achieved good and excellent academic results, 52 students who were class officers or student union officers with good achievements in their studies and work, and 49 students who overcame difficulties in their studies. On this occasion, the Military Telecommunications Company also presented gifts and scholarships to 8 students with the highest scores in the university entrance exam last year.

During the 2009-2010 academic year, the school will focus on implementing the following key tasks:

  • Strengthen the personnel of the Board of Directors and reorganize the structure of departments and units according to the new term of the Rector; promote and improve the quality of planning, training, and professional development of staff. Develop specific plans and solutions to promote the implementation of projects on training and developing young staff and leading officials in their respective fields.
  • Continue to further expand the implementation of the credit-based training method; broaden the scale of high-quality training, training that meets international standards and international collaborations; diversify training types, and provide training that meets social needs.
  • Focus intellectual efforts on continuing to develop and implement major scientific tasks, key topics, and projects in social sciences;
  • Continue implementing administrative reforms; strengthen the application of information technology in management; find solutions to increase revenue; continue expanding the school's learning and working space; and increase in-depth investment in facilities and equipment for teaching and learning...
