Implementing the development of a scientific research strategy until 2020, with a vision to 2030.

This morning, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) chaired a meeting to disseminate the plan for developing the University's research strategy until 2020, with a vision to 2030. The meeting was attended by representatives from the leadership of departments, centers, faculties, and affiliated departments.

The research strategy will include fundamental contents such as: the basis for its development; an assessment of the current state of the University's scientific activities based on analysis and identification of strengths and weaknesses in human resources, finance, international cooperation, research facilities, opportunities and challenges for research activities; strategic objectives of research activities until 2020 and a vision for 2030, including general objectives and specific objectives; solutions, roadmap and implementation organization.

To develop this strategy, each unit will review its scientific research activities, propose key research directions and basic scientific products for 2020 and 2030, along with the mechanisms and conditions for implementation. Each unit will propose one expert to participate in the expert group developing the University's science and technology strategy. It is expected that the draft strategy will be completed by early September for discussion and feedback.

At this meeting, delegates also discussed and identified several issues in the field of science and technology that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular and Vietnam National University, Hanoi in general are currently facing. Some strengths were highlighted, such as: the University has a team of renowned and reputable scientists both domestically and internationally; some scientists are reputable experts in national consulting organizations on economic and social development; and the young staff are well-trained. Regarding the organization of science and technology activities, the University has formed several research groups with distinct schools of thought domestically and maintains good international relations, establishing cooperative relationships for science and technology development both domestically and internationally. However, some limitations were also identified, such as: a shortage of successors to leading scientists; uneven distribution of science and technology personnel across disciplines; a lack of direction and market-oriented thinking in science and technology; the failure to develop a breakthrough and feasible science and technology strategy; and the lack of a professional science and technology management team…
