On August 20, 2014, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Vice-Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and representatives of the Faculty of Sociology and the Office of Foreign Affairs and International Training Cooperation received and worked with Prof. Francois Houtart, PhD in Sociology, Distinguished Professor of the Catholic University of Louvain (Kingdom of Belgium), former Director of CETRI.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh welcomed the presence of Prof. Francois Houtart as a representative of the Catholic University of Louvain (Kingdom of Belgium), and also welcomed his interest and support for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in general and the Sociology Department in particular. He said that the Faculty of Sociology has now opened a Social Work Department, creating favorable conditions to promote the Sociology Department. Through that, he hopes to receive more support from foreign experts and professors such as Prof. Francois Houtart.

Specifically, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities proposed to cooperate with Professor Francois Houtart in translating works.From “common property” to “common interests of humanity”(English isFrom “Common goods” to the “Common good of humanity”), facilitating the relationship between the School and the FundWalonie Bruxelles (Belgium) more extensively, finally suggesting Prof. Francois Houtart to participate in writing a paper for the conference onEFEO and social sciences in Vietnam are co-organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Vietnam Institute of History and the French School of the Far East at the end of this year.

ReplyProf. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh, Professor Francois Houtart said he was very willing to help the School because he was very interested in Sociology research in general and research on changes in rural society in particular.

Belgian Sociology Professor Francois Houtart is a sociologist who has enthusiastically supported Vietnamese Sociology for 30 years and has many research works on Vietnamese Rural Sociology. He presented at a scientific seminar with the theme "Sustainable development towards people and building socialism" on August 11, 2014 at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (Academy).
