On August 20, 2014, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), along with representatives from the Faculty of Sociology and the Department of External Relations and International Training Cooperation, met and worked with Professor Francois Houtart, Doctor of Sociology, Distinguished Professor at the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), and former Director of CETRI.

Professor Nguyen Van Khanh warmly welcomed Professor Francois Houtart's presence as a representative of the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), and also appreciated his interest and support for the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in general and the Sociology department in particular. He stated that the Faculty of Sociology has now added a Social Work major, creating conditions to promote the field of Sociology. Through this, he hopes to receive more assistance from foreign experts and professors like Professor Francois Houtart.

Specifically, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities proposed collaborating with Professor Francois Houtart on the translation of his works.From “common property” to “the common good of humanity”(in English)From “Common goods” to the “Common good of humanity”), facilitating and promoting the relationship between the School and the FoundationWalonie Bruxelles (Belgium) went further, ultimately suggesting that Professor Francois Houtart contribute a paper for the conference onThe EFEO and social sciences in Vietnam, co-organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Vietnam Institute of History, and the French School of Far Eastern Studies, will take place later this year.

In responseProf. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh, Professor Francois Houtart said he was very willing to help the School because he is very interested in sociological research in general and research on changes in rural societies in particular.

Professor Francois Houtart, a Belgian sociologist, has enthusiastically assisted Vietnamese sociology for 30 years and has produced numerous research works on rural Vietnamese sociology. He presented at a scientific seminar on the topic "Sustainable Development Towards Human Beings and Building Socialism" on August 11, 2014, at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (Academy).
