The Nguyen Dynasty's Imperial Records are memorials, edicts, decrees, orders, reports, declarations, and diplomatic documents in the Nguyen Dynasty's archives that were read or approved by the king. Before approving, the king consulted the Cabinet's and the Six Ministries' notes and then personally gave his opinion and orders. The king's comments were all in vermilion, so they were called Imperial Records or Imperial Notes. Documents that had been approved by the Imperial Records were called Imperial Records. Imperial Records symbolized the supreme power in the country, so documents that had been approved by the Imperial Records could not be revised. Vietnam Television interviewed Professor Phan Huy Le (Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Historical Science and History) on this issue.
