Chat with the leader of the Youth Union of the School of Humanities on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the tradition of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union

School Youth: Sir, can you share a little bit of your feelings when the "friend" you are close to celebrates his 85th birthday?

Secretary Tran Bach Hieu:The emotions in the Teacher are really difficult to describe because this year's birthday of the Union is a special birthday. A birthday that has a proud tradition, a very strong transformation and innovation in all aspects to contribute to building the country and aiming at the main target of the Union is the youth in a new context that requires the full promotion of the revolutionary spirit of the youth.

Secretary Tran Bach Hieu attended the Youth Conference in Thailand in 2016

School Youth: So what is the reason that made you stick with the Youth Union in general and the Youth Union movement of Nhan Van in particular?

Secretary Tran Bach Hieu:He started participating in the Youth Union when he was in college. At that time, because of his volunteering spirit, he was elected by his homeroom teacher and the whole class as the Youth Union Secretary. After nearly 10 years of association, going through many different positions and jobs, he is currently trusted to hold the position of Secretary of the School Youth Union. During all those years of association with the Youth Union, he himself felt a great change and movement from being passive and indifferent to the surroundings to being more proactive and positive, and especially recognizing the true values that the Youth Union brought to him.

After graduating, I also did some jobs, went through a few positions but then I don't know why I returned to Humanities. Perhaps it was "fate" because Humanities is a very special environment, unlike any other environment. There are teachers with heart, vision, and talent, bringing many valuable lessons to life, there is a Youth Union organization with dynamic and creative students, and above all, there are kindnesses that are rare in any environment. It is those kindnesses that have urged me to stick with and contribute to Humanities until the "fire" runs out.

School Youth: Can you share some memories of the learning environment and the Youth Union movement?

Secretary Tran Bach Hieu: The memory that I still remember clearly until now is when I got to watch the Youth Union cadres in the cultural programs organized by the school's Youth Union. At that time, the Me Tri dormitory had not yet built a spacious hall like it is now, so whenever there was a cultural program, everyone would go down to watch through the windows because the hall was packed. At that time, I saw the cadres performing so confidently and wonderfully, especially Huy Cuong, and from then on I idolized him (laughs).

On the occasion of March 8th of the second year of university, the class organized a performance with male students competing and female students as judges. The teacher intended to skip the performance because he thought he could not sing, but in the end he was still "caught". At the end of the program, the teacher was very surprised because the female students awarded him the first prize. And from then on, the teacher participated in the performance of the Faculty and then the School until now. The more he participated, the more confident he felt, and that confidence was the motivation for the teacher to actively participate in more work, accumulating valuable experiences for himself.

School Youth: Having gone through a long journey, what do you think about when joining the Youth Union?

Secretary Tran Bach Hieu:What I always keep in mind when working in the Youth Union is that there must be sacrifice for the collective, no collective can exist if its members do not know how to sacrifice their ego to build and nurture the collective. Besides, when working in the Youth Union, we need to create a truly friendly and close environment for our members and students. That is to create a fair environment for everyone. The Youth Union is a learning and training environment in many aspects for students, so let our members freely express their creativity and dynamism, giving them many opportunities to assert themselves despite difficulties, even failures. Young people need to experience, must fail to realize what they are lacking. If we only succeed forever, we will rest on our laurels.

“Get up and go out to experience, you will see good values”

School Youth: The last question for you is: What is the orientation of the Humanities Youth Union in the coming years to build a Youth Union environment that is truly an environment for experiencing and training the qualities of student union members? And what message do you want to send to the Humanities Youth Union students?

Secretary Tran Bach Hieu: Regarding the orientation of construction and development, as the highest leader of the school's youth, I realize that the orientation to build a strong and sustainable Youth Union organization, to truly become a training environment, a "companion" with student union members must first build a team of enthusiastic, pure-hearted, bright-minded, brave, and proactive cadres in tasks and work. These must be people who are devoted to the Youth Union, to the collective, have a spirit of construction, criticism and self-criticism of negative manifestations appearing in the Youth Union organization. Next, it is necessary to build activities, movements, and work that are truly close to the practical needs of student union members. If the Youth Union organization takes good care of its members, then the members will inevitably come to the Youth Union organization, and thus, genuine values will spread into the community and affirm the image and position of a socio-political organization founded and trained by the Party and Uncle Ho.

To the student union members, I want to send a message: Stand up and go out to experience, you will see good values. We are young and we still have to train ourselves. Besides the main task of studying and researching, you also need to actively participate in activities to accumulate necessary skills and experiences. Only then can we become people who are both "red" and "specialized", not worried when stepping out into life.

Thank you for your interesting sharing. I wish you good health and happiness and that the School Union will always develop strongly and become a close companion to the students.
