The leaders of the two sides, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Rector, Director of the Center for Seas and Islands) and Prof. Chung Hae Jo (Director of the Institute of Global and Area Studies) signed the official memorandum of understanding between the two units.
Prof. Choi Horim (Director of the Institute of Global and Area Studies) said that the Institute of Global and Area Studies focuses on research areas related to the ocean and humanities – which is very suitable for the field of activity of the Center for Seas and Islands, USSH. Therefore, cooperation between the two sides has many prospects in the future.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim said that the signing ceremony is the result of cooperation, trust and mutual understanding between Vietnamese and Korean researchers at the two universities over a long period of time. Pukyong University of Korea is famous for its training in marine and maritime subjects. Researchers from the two units can publish their research in the Journal of Area Studies (Pukyong University) and the Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH). This cooperation will help USSH further promote research on seas and islands as one of the key research directions of the university.

The Institute of Global and Area Studies (Pukyong National University, Korea) was established in 2016 with the aim of promoting the connection between Global and Area Studies. The Institute studies global systems and operations in regions around the world; disseminates knowledge about regions, global topics with cross-regional significance. The Institute contributes to training experts, implementing international projects, and practical activities to promote understanding of global and area studies. The Institute has organized 5 international conferences across the Pacific in different countries. The Institute consists of 06 centers: Center for American Studies, Center for European Studies, Center for Japanese Studies, Center for Chinese Studies, Center for ASEAN, Center for Latin American Studies.
