The University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese built a channel to teach Vietnamese to overseas Vietnamese.

Honoring the beauty and value of Vietnamese in the community

Teaching and learning Vietnamese for generations of Vietnamese people abroad is an issue of special concern to the Party and State in order to consolidate and develop the language and cultural identity of the Vietnamese people; to arouse and promote the spirit of turning towards the homeland and country; to contribute to promoting the Vietnamese language and culture abroad. As the leader of the education system in Vietnam, VNU has always been a pioneer in building training programs and large-scale projects of the country and the nation, in which, VNU has assigned the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, University of Social Sciences and Humanities to deploy a Vietnamese language training channel for Vietnamese people abroad.

The project aims to raise awareness of the Vietnamese community abroad towards the Vietnamese language, honor the beauty and value of the Vietnamese language in the community; in addition, to encourage, motivate and honor individuals, organizations and associations that have made positive contributions to preserving and spreading the Vietnamese language in the Vietnamese community abroad; maintain the use of Vietnamese in Vietnamese families abroad in daily family communication; and spread the Vietnamese language to foreigners.

This is a project rich in humanity, of great political and social significance, creating motivation to improve the efficiency and quality of teaching and learning Vietnamese in the community; promoting local authorities and educational institutions to introduce Vietnamese into teaching at educational institutions in areas with a large Vietnamese population; supporting universities and research institutes with faculties or departments teaching and researching Vietnamese to further develop research, teaching and dissemination of Vietnamese; promoting the introduction of Vietnamese as an official foreign language alongside other foreign languages ​​in areas with many advantages. With more than 5.3 million Vietnamese people abroad, Vietnamese is the soul of the Vietnamese people, national pride, contributing to creating lasting values, nurturing the national spirit and spirit, becoming a solid foundation to preserve traditional culture (shared by the Board of Directors of the Faculty of VNH&TV).

The project will be implemented in the period of 2023 - 2030, concurrently with the Cultural Diplomacy Strategy to 2030 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 2013/QD-TTg dated November 30, 2021. Activities towards the Vietnamese Language Honor Day will be implemented throughout the year and can be organized in conjunction with festivals and celebrations of important national holidays. Periodically organize a contest to search for and confer the title of "Vietnamese Language Ambassador Abroad".

Within the framework of activities to build a Vietnamese language training channel for overseas Vietnamese, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VTVLive and VTV4 Foreign Television Channel prepare to record and produce teaching programs.

Ensuring Vietnamese language value for Vietnamese people abroad

In the recent past, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has assigned the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language to be the focal point for implementing activities to promote the teaching of Vietnamese language and culture to overseas Vietnamese and foreigners, achieving encouraging results. In particular, the University has cooperated with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to implement a number of activities such as participating in teaching overseas Vietnamese training classes on language teaching methods; participating in the organizing team of the Vietnamese Language Honor Day Project; Building a set of textbooks consisting of 11 components (phases 1 and 2) and continuing to implement the remaining components to be completed in December 2022 (phase 3). The products are being transferred, digitized and put into use in 2022 when VNU and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities complete the online platform, with the coordination of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese. In particular, the School has completed a set of 30 completely new exam questions specifically for overseas Vietnamese, along with a set of instructions for teachers and parents specifically for overseas Vietnamese.

The President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, said: The school will ensure the best quality in terms of expertise, the learning resources will be digitized appropriately to deploy for overseas Vietnamese around the world to use through the online platform. The school hopes that with the drastic investment, the close attention of the leaders of VNU, especially VNU Director Le Quan and the resonance of the State's policies, the program will achieve many good results in the coming time. VNU will promote information and promotion at home and abroad in response to the Vietnamese Language Honor Day and officially launch, host and coordinate the Information Portal serving the Vietnamese Online Training Channel for Overseas Vietnamese on September 8, 2022.

Basically, VNU has been proactively and successfully implementing the State-level task of enhancing online Vietnamese teaching for overseas Vietnamese, initially achieving important goals: Building and maintaining a basic, effective, appropriate, and accessible online Vietnamese teaching program (according to the 6-level competency framework) for overseas Vietnamese, to help generations of overseas Vietnamese (especially the younger generation) have enough Vietnamese language skills to use in communication and study, contributing to preserving the national cultural identity, and fostering a sense of returning to one's roots. The Vietnamese teaching channel for overseas Vietnamese hosted by VNU ensures practicality through an advanced and modern teaching platform, suitable for developing learners' Vietnamese language skills in the era of the 4.0 industrial revolution.

Overseas Vietnamese participating in online Vietnamese courses managed by VNU will be provided with learning methods, language resources and Vietnamese practice utilities suitable for each level: elementary, intermediate and advanced. Regarding the roadmap, in 2022, teaching Vietnamese at levels 1 and 2 will be promoted for children, teenagers and beginners of Vietnamese. From 2023 onwards, overseas Vietnamese learners across the five continents can access lessons and practice Vietnamese at a higher level, along with an ecosystem of valuable reference materials to promote the spirit of self-study and self-training of overseas Vietnamese, especially the younger generation.
