11. Summary of new results of the thesis
The number of HIV-infected children under 18 years old is 150, accounting for 0.68% of the number of HIV-infected people alive in 2019. The number of HIV-infected children is most concentrated in Ba Vi district because this is where the Social Labor Education Center No. 02 is located, which carries out the task of caring for and educating HIV-infected children in Hanoi.
Children infected with HIV/AIDS in Hanoi all have the need to go to school, deeply desire to go to school, to participate in school activities without any stigma or discrimination because that is the way to help children learn, develop their abilities, intelligence as well as interact with friends and teachers, have fun, be comfortable, prevent inferiority complex and encourage children to feel normal like other children.
All HIV/AIDS-infected children aged 6 and above who participated in the survey have been and are going to school, but most children under 6 years old are not guaranteed the right to go to nursery school or kindergarten. HIV/AIDS-infected children, especially those at Center 02, face the most difficulties, obstacles, and hardships compared to other groups of children to go to school. The results show that only HIV/AIDS-infected children living in the community and high school children living at Center 02 study in the same classroom with children who are not infected with HIV/AIDS in school, while primary school children still have to study in separate classrooms at Center 02 and secondary school children have to study in separate classes at Yen Bai B Secondary School.
The process of school integration of children infected with HIV/AIDS is more difficult than that of children in the control group, and of children infected with HIV living at Center 02 is more limited than that of children living in the community in many different aspects due to differences in living area, disclosure of HIV status, and family circumstances. The learning outcomes and participation in collective activities of children infected with HIV/AIDS are lower, but the psychological problems encountered are more than those of children not infected with HIV/AIDS. The higher the age and grade, the less stigmatization of children infected with HIV.
Thanks to advances in healthcare that have improved the health of children infected with HIV/AIDS, the strong implementation of the legal system and policies related to the right to study and education of children infected with HIV/AIDS as well as the awareness and determination of parents and caregivers of children infected with HIV/AIDS, their right to access education has been guaranteed. However, there are 4 barriers that make it difficult for children infected with HIV in Hanoi to integrate: inadequacies in the implementation of laws and policies; excessive worries and fears about the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission in schools by parents of children not infected with HIV/AIDS, teachers; characteristics of family circumstances, attention, care, and education of parents and caregivers as well as self-stigma of parents/caregivers and stemming from the specific health status, medical care requirements, age, living area, and HIV disclosure status of children. Therefore, the more confidential the HIV status is, the more opportunities for children to access and integrate into school are guaranteed. The higher the age and grade of the child, the less difficulties they face in accessing and integrating into school. Children living in the community have an easier time ensuring their right to education and integration into school.
12. Practical application:
- Serve as a basis for the implementation of a comprehensive care and support service model for OVC children.
- Contribute to the report on the implementation of Decision 570/QD-TTg on the National Action Plan for Children Affected by HIV/AIDS for the period 2014 - 2020.
- Is a scientific basis for the Department of Education and Training of Hanoi City to thoroughly solve the problem of children infected with HIV/AIDS at the Center for Social Labor Education 02 to study integratedly at Yen Bai B Primary School instead of studying specifically at the Center.
13. Further research directions:
- Career orientation for HIV-infected children at Social Labor Education Center 02 (Ba Vi, Hanoi)
- Education on reproductive health and sexual health for children infected with HIV/AIDS;
- Mental health problems of children infected with HIV/AIDS.

10. Summary of the new findings of the thesis
The number of children infected with HIV under the age of 18 is 150, accounting for 0.68% of the number of people living with HIV in 2019. The number of HIV-infected children is most concentrated in Ba Vi district because this is where the Center No. 02 is performing the task of caring and educating children living with HIV/AIDS in Hanoi.
Children infected by HIV/AIDS in Hanoi have a deep need to go to school and participate in school activities without any stigma or discrimination because this is the ways to help children learn, develop their capacities, intellect as well as interact with friends, teachers, have fun, be comfortable, prevent inferiority and encourage children to feel normal like other children.
All children with HIV/AIDS from 6 years old who participated in the survey have been and are going to school, but the majority of children under 6 years old do not have the right to go to kindergarten. Children living with HIV/AIDS, especially those at Center 02, face the most difficulties, obstacles and difficulties compared to other groups of children to go to school. The results show that only children living with HIV/AIDS living in the community and Center 02 high school children can study in a classroom with non-HIV/AIDS children in schools, but only among primary children still have to study separately in a separate classroom at Center 02 and junior high school children must learn a separate class at Yen Bai B Secondary School.
The process of school integration for children living with HIV / AIDS is more difficult than for children in the control group, for children living with HIV living in the Center 02 more limited than for children living in the community in many different ways. Due to differences in area of residence, disclosure of HIV status, family situation. Academic performance, the participation of children living with HIV / AIDS is lower, but the psychological problems are more common than children without HIV / AIDS. The higher the age, the higher the level of education, the lower the stigma towards HIV-infected children.
Thanks to advancements in ARV treatment, the health of children living with HIV/AIDS has been improved, the strong implementation of the legal system and policies related to the right to education and education of HIV-infected children/AIDS as well as awareness, the determination of the parents and caregivers to fight for HIV/AIDS children, their access to education has been guaranteed. However, there are 04 barriers that make it difficult for the integration process of children living with HIV in Hanoi: inadequacies in implementing laws and policies; excessive worries and fears about the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission in schools of parents of non-HIV/AIDS students and teachers; characteristics of family background, attention, care, and teaching of parents, caregivers as well as the discrimination of parents/caregivers themselves and stemming from specific health status, requirements health care, age, living area, HIV status of the child. Therefore, the more confidential the HIV status is, the more guaranteed the children will be to have access to and integrated into school. The more the age, the child's level of education increases, the more difficult the approach and integration at school decrease. Children living in the community more easily ensure the right to study and integrate at school.
