- The thesis has statistically described, analyzed and compared the means of expressing strategies for refusing invitations (refusing an invitation) of Americans and Vietnamese, pointing out the similarities and differences between the two languages.

- The thesis has studied the impact of power and gender factors on the choice of using the strategy of refusing invitations of Americans and Vietnamese.

The research results can be used as references to compile books on teaching Vietnamese for foreigners, English for Vietnamese, and in the field of translation, contributing to preserving the purity of the Vietnamese language.

13. Further research directions:

- Research on non-verbal responses such as shaking the head, remaining silent, frowning, grimacing, shrugging, showing discomfort on facial expressions... instead of refusal responses in communication activities.

- Research on utterances refusing requests to do something for someone and refusing invitations in natural language materials in many social contexts and with different communicative characters, instead of in literary works, short stories, Vietnamese TV series, and foreign TV series.

- Compare the choice of means of expression and factors affecting the behavior of refusing offers and invitations with cases of refusing requests, requests, and asking someone to do something for you.
