11. Summary of the thesis results:
This thesis has systematized the research of scholars worldwide, domestically, and regionally on the participation of local communities in community-based tourism development. From this, it identifies gaps in research related to the topic presented in this thesis.
In their research, the author delved into studying and analyzing the factors promoting community tourism participation by assessing the specific level of people's participation in tourism activities based on Pretty's 7-point scale (1995); on the other hand, the research topic examined four factors promoting local community participation, including: community awareness of tourism resources and activities; economic benefits; conditions regarding mechanisms and policies; and household resources, thereby proposing solutions and recommendations for the sustainable development of community tourism in Ba Vi.
The participation of local communities in tourism development is a multifaceted category influenced by a complex combination of factors. Building on previous studies, this research has developed a scale to measure the current participation characteristics of local communities in tourism and extracted six factors, including two new factors: "Trust with stakeholders" and "Accessibility to tourists". The research results show that the level of participation of the majority of people in Ba Vi currently corresponds to passive participation and there are statistically significant differences between community groups with different levels of education, income, place of residence, duration of participation, and roles of participation. The regression equation reflects that all six factors related to the current participation characteristics of the local community positively influence their decision to participate in tourism development, arranged in order of influence from highest to lowest: knowledge of local tourism, attitude towards tourism development, tourism service capacity, decision-making ability, trust in stakeholders, and ability to reach tourists. However, the decision-making ability and trust in stakeholders during the participation process of the people of Ba Vi are still limited. Based on the research results and documents from state management agencies, the author proposes six solutions that need to be implemented to strengthen consensus and active/proactive participation of the community in tourism activities in Ba Vi.
This study uses linear regression analysis to determine the influence of independent variables on the dependent variable "Decision to participate in tourism development" of the Ba Vi local community. The evaluation results were collected through a survey with a sample size and processed using SPSS 23.0 software.
12. Practical applicability: This serves as a reference document for students and trainees in tourism and hospitality-related fields, and provides a scientific basis for future research on community tourism and the participation of local communities in its development.
13. Further research directions: Assessing the level of participation in community tourism activities in Ba Vi, Hanoi.
