The thesis is one of the relatively new studies on sports tourism in general and the impact of Marathon races on tourism development in the Northern provinces in particular. This study is the foundation and basis for future studies on the topic of sports tourism, sports events or will expand to many other sports fields related to tourism.
In addition to the overview of previous research works on sports tourism, event tourism, and sports events, the author's research on "Developing sports tourism through Marathon races in the Northern region" has synthesized the arguments of studies in the world as well as in Vietnam on the theory of sports tourism development. The research has also proposed a quantitative model to measure the impact of factors affecting the development of sports tourism in the Northern region through Marathon races through variables such as: Self-discovery, relaxation and culture or factors of landscape, events and activities, cultural history.
Through the research process, it is concluded that the factors that positively influence and are the foundation for the development of sports tourism in the Northern region through Marathons, according to the strongest and decreasing levels of impact, are as follows: Social interaction; Events and activities; History and culture; Landscape; Self-discovery; and Relaxation.
12. Practical applicability: It is a reference document for students and trainees in tourism and hospitality industries and a scientific basis for future topics to refer to in the process of business operations and development of sports tourism products and services through Marathon competitions.
