Webometrics 2024: Ranked 495th in impact index - VNU continues to improve its position and research quality.

On February 5, 2024, Cybermetrics Labs (part of the Spanish National Research Council) announced the results of the first Webometrics ranking of 2024. In this ranking, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) increased its position in the top 700 worldwide, and for the first time, the Impact criterion entered the top 500 worldwide (position 495).

In the February 2024 ranking, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) continued to maintain its position as number 1 in Vietnam and improved its ranking in the world (from 671st to 649th) and the region (11th in Southeast Asia – up 1 place compared to the previous ranking and 140th in Asia – up 27 places compared to the previous ranking).

Webometrics is an automated ranking system that assesses the digital capabilities and the reach and influence of academic resources of higher education institutions based on indicators of the reach and influence of their websites and online information systems.impact), openness to academic resources (mouth) on Google Scholar, and scientific citation index on the Scopus database system (excellence) of a higher education institution.
In this ranking period, Webometrics maintains the same ranking methodology as in the January 2021 ranking. Specifically, the criterion “Presence"(The amount of digitized resources) has been removed from the ranking methodology, criteria"Visibility(Level of influence) has the highest weight (50%), followed by the criterionExcellence(Excellence) has a weighting of 40% and criteriaTransformerAcademic openness (Academic openness) has a weight of 10% - in which, the Transparency criterion has further expanded the number of scientist profiles reviewed and evaluated on the Google Scholar database to 290 profiles (top 21-310).
Also in this ranking, VNU Hanoi was among the top 500 in the world in the Impact criterion – demonstrating the strong and sustainable spread of VNU Hanoi's digital resources and academic prestige to the educational community and society as a whole.
 
In 2023, the quality of education at Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) continued to be highly regarded by society. According to rankings by prestigious international organizations such as Times Higher Education and QS, VNU consistently ranked as the best university in Vietnam and among the top 1,000 universities worldwide. VNU maintained its upward trend in ranked areas and improved its scores in Academic Reputation and Employer Placement.
In 2023, THE Impact Rankings used the pioneering implementation of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a criterion. Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) ranked 401-600 globally in this ranking, notably making a strong breakthrough to rank 70 globally in the Quality Education criterion.
According to the QS Asia University Rankings 2024 (QS AUR 2024), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) is ranked 187th – within the top 22% of higher education institutions in Asia. The QS AUR 2024 results show VNU's solid progress in Employer Reputation, rising to 131st in Asia (with a score of 34.2 points). This reflects the increasing quality of VNU's education, which is highly valued by the labor market – represented by domestic and international employers. In addition to the increase in Employer Reputation, VNU maintains its strengths in International Research Network (ranked 89th in Asia – with 71.9 points) and Academic Reputation (ranked 147th in Asia – with 27.7 points).
In 2023, Times Higher Education ranked Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) among the top 351-400 universities in Asia. Of the six Vietnamese higher education institutions ranked, VNU received the highest score in the Teaching criteria (learning environment, 21.7 points).
In October 2023, Times Higher Education published the results of the WUR by Subjects 2024 rankings. Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) increased the number of ranked subject groups to 8 out of 11 (an increase of 2 groups compared to the 2023 ranking). Specifically, the two subject groups ranked for the first time by THE WUR are: Education (ranked 401-500) and Clinical and Health (ranked 601-800). In addition, VNU continues to maintain 6 subject groups that were ranked in previous rankings: Social Sciences (ranked 501-600); Business and Economics (ranked 601-800); Life Sciences (ranked 801-1000); Computer Sciences ranked 801-1000; Engineering ranked 801-1000; Physical Sciences ranked 801-1000.
In March 2023, in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 (QS WUR by Subject 2023), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) continued to maintain its leading position in key fields, with six fields maintaining their rankings compared to 2022. In addition, two groups of VNU fields continued to be ranked: Engineering & Technology and Natural Sciences, with the Natural Sciences group ranking number 1 in Vietnam. Of the six ranked fields, two maintained their rankings: Computer Science & Information Systems (top 501-550) and Mathematics (top 351-400). Within these six fields, VNU Hanoi continues to maintain its number one position in Vietnam in two areas: Physics and Astronomy, and Business and Management Studies.

In this ranking, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) continues to maintain its position in the top 700 best educational institutions, ranking 671st, an increase of 87 places compared to the 2022 ranking. It continues to hold the number one position in Vietnam and strengthens its ranking in the region (12th in Southeast Asia and 167th in Asia).
