Monday - August 18, 2025 09:56
As part of the project "Korean Studies in Northern Vietnam: Sharing and Development," faculty members from the Department of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, provided students of Le Thanh Tong High School (Ha Long, Quang Ninh) with a multifaceted academic and experiential space showcasing Korean cultural identity on August 15, 2025.
The program served as both an opportunity to share knowledge and a bridge connecting cultures, contributing to fostering a passion for international exploration and encouraging exchange between young Vietnamese and Korean generations. With meticulous preparation, rich content, and many engaging activities, the event provided memorable experiences for the students.
Providing knowledge, fostering cultural exchange.
In the context of globalization, it is crucial for high school students to have access to international culture. This event is designed with two main parts: Part 1 - Specialized Lectures: Speakers, including lecturers and researchers from prestigious universities, will share relevant yet insightful academic topics, helping students better understand the country, people, culture, and lifestyle of South Korea; Part 2 - Experiencing Korean Culture: A vibrant cultural space will be recreated through visual activities, allowing students to experience Korean culture authentically.
The program's highlight is the harmonious blend of theory and practice, making knowledge accessible, easy to understand, and fostering long-term interest in learning.

Three outstanding academic topics
In the first session, students will be introduced to three academic topics, each exploring a unique aspect of Korea.
The seminar "K-Beauty and the Allure of 'Korean-Style' Beauty" - Speaker: Ms. Pham Khanh Linh (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi). K-Beauty has become an icon, contributing to changing beauty trends worldwide, especially among young people. Korean fashion styles, particularly those of Korean celebrities, have a profound influence on shaping the consumption and fashion habits of many young Vietnamese people.
Next on the program was the seminar "Characteristics of Korean Culinary Culture" - Speaker: Ms. Hoang Thi Hai Anh (Ha Long University). In this seminar, students were introduced to the principles of balance in Korean cuisine and typical dishes of the "Land of Kimchi". Through the lens of cuisine, students clearly saw the interplay between tradition and modernity, as well as how cuisine has become a "cultural ambassador" of Korea on the international stage.
Concluding the thematic lecture was the topic "Intercultural Communication between Korea and Vietnam" - Speaker: Ms. Dong Thi Yen (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi). The speaker provided practical examples to highlight the similarities and differences in everyday communication between Koreans and Vietnamese, and appropriate behavior in international interactions, especially with Koreans. This is a practical topic that helps students not only expand their knowledge but also prepare intercultural communication skills in the context of increasingly deep international integration.
Throughout the lecture, the students of Le Thanh Tong High School listened attentively and engaged in lively discussions with the speakers. They also enthusiastically participated in games and quizzes related to reinforcing their knowledge of the topic.

Korean cultural experience space
Following the in-depth lectures, students from Le Thanh Tong High School moved on to Part 2: Experiencing Korean culture in a "miniature Korean space." Activities included: folding paper Hanbok, experiencing traditional Hanbok clothing, folk games (tossing tuho, playing jegichagi), traditional music, and more. The combination of knowledge and practical experience helped students not only understand but also feel Korean culture through all their senses.
Sharing his thoughts with the organizers, Nguyen Kim Long (10A2 class, Le Thanh Tong High School) was very impressed with the live mini-games after each topic, which helped reinforce knowledge, and many other students in the school received attractive gifts from the organizers. In addition, he shared his joy and excitement at directly experiencing Korean culture such as throwing tuho, folding paper Hanbok, and trying on Korean clothing during the program.
Through this program, students from Le Thanh Tong High School embarked on a special journey: simultaneously acquiring valuable academic knowledge and experiencing vibrant Korean culture. The program clearly demonstrates the spirit of learning to understand and experiencing to connect. This is not just an educational and cultural event, but also a starting point for nurturing love, understanding, and friendship between Vietnam and Korea in the future.
