Vietnam National University, Hanoi is about to launch a Vietnamese language training channel for Vietnamese people abroad.

Teaching and learning Vietnamese for generations of Vietnamese people abroad is a matter of great concern to the Party and the State, aiming to preserve, strengthen, and develop the Vietnamese language and national cultural identity; to awaken and promote the spirit of patriotism; and to contribute to promoting the Vietnamese language and culture abroad. As the leading institution in Vietnam's education system, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has always been at the forefront of developing national and large-scale training programs and projects. Among these, VNU has assigned the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to implement a Vietnamese language training channel for Vietnamese people abroad.

On December 9, 2021, Vice Rector of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) Pham Bao Son held a working session with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to inform them about the activities VNU is undertaking to build the Channel. Attending the meeting were Ambassador Luong Thanh Nghi, Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, Hoang Anh Tuan, and the Head of the Cooperation and Development Department of VNU, Nguyen Thi Anh Thu.

Recently, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has assigned the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language as the focal point for implementing activities to promote the teaching of Vietnamese language and culture to overseas Vietnamese and foreigners, achieving encouraging results. Specifically, the University has collaborated with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to carry out several activities such as participating in teaching training courses for overseas Vietnamese on language teaching methods; participating in the organization of the "Vietnamese Language Honor Day" project; and developing a set of 11 components (phases 1 and 2), completed in December 2021 (expected acceptance date: December 10, 2021). These products can be put into use in 2022 when the Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities complete the online platform, in coordination with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese. In particular, the school will complete the component of a completely new and updated set of 30 exam papers, along with a guide for teachers and parents specifically for overseas Vietnamese.
Furthermore, as part of the activities to build a Vietnamese language training channel for Vietnamese people abroad, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities are also collaborating with the Ministry of Education and Training, VTVLive, and the VTV4 foreign affairs television channel to prepare for filming and producing teaching programs.
The Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hoang Anh Tuan, pledged that the university will ensure the highest professional quality, and all learning materials will be standardized for implementation for people all over the world. The university hopes that with the decisive investment and close attention of the leaders of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, especially the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Le Quan, and the supportive policies of the State, the program will achieve many positive results in the future.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu, Head of the Cooperation and Development Department of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), emphasized that teaching and learning Vietnamese to generations of Vietnamese people abroad is not only within VNU's expertise but also a responsibility to the nation for a leading academic institution in the country. Besides teaching Vietnamese, VNU also expands scholarship and exchange opportunities for overseas Vietnamese to contribute to the overall development of the country.
Vice Rector of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Pham Bao Son highly appreciated the resolute commitment of lecturers and researchers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to the important but also very complex task of teaching Vietnamese to Vietnamese people abroad. To quickly bring these activities into reality, the Vice Rector suggested that the University should promote the development of an online channel in parallel with the completion of the curriculum and learning materials. He also hoped that the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese would provide specific requirements regarding the target audience for the lectures so that VNU lecturers can have a suitable approach, aiming for the channel to launch in early 2022.
Ambassador Luong Thanh Nghi agreed with the views of the Vice Director of VNU, Pham Bao Son, and expressed his desire for both sides to work together decisively in implementing the plan, while learning from experience along the way. The Committee will coordinate with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in selecting beneficiaries and conducting communication activities. The Committee will actively connect VNU with the Vietnamese community abroad to attract more talent to work and study at VNU.
