VNU is about to launch a Vietnamese language training channel for overseas Vietnamese.

Teaching and learning Vietnamese for generations of Vietnamese people abroad is an issue that the Party and State pay great attention to in order to preserve, consolidate and develop the language and cultural identity of the Vietnamese people; to arouse and promote the spirit of turning towards the homeland and country; to contribute to promoting Vietnamese language and culture abroad. As the leader of the education system in Vietnam, VNU has always been a pioneer in building training programs and large-scale projects of the country and the nation, in which, VNU has assigned the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to deploy the Vietnamese Language Training Channel for Vietnamese people abroad.

On December 9, 2021, VNU Vice President Pham Bao Son had a meeting with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform about the activities that VNU is conducting to build the Channel. Attending the meeting were Ambassador Luong Thanh Nghi, Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hoang Anh Tuan and Head of the Department of Cooperation and Development of VNU Nguyen Thi Anh Thu.

In the recent past, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has assigned the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language to be the focal point for implementing activities to promote the teaching of Vietnamese language and culture to overseas Vietnamese and foreigners, achieving encouraging results. In particular, the University has cooperated with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to implement a number of activities such as participating in teaching overseas Vietnamese training classes on language teaching methods; participating in the organizing team of the Vietnamese Language Honor Day Project; Building a set of 11 textbooks (phases 1 and 2) to be completed in December 2021 (expected to be accepted on December 10, 2021). The products can be put into use in 2022 when VNU and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities complete the online platform, with the coordination of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese. In particular, the School will complete a completely new set of 30 exam questions and update it with a set of instructions for teachers and parents specifically for overseas Vietnamese.
In addition, within the framework of activities to build a Vietnamese language training channel for overseas Vietnamese, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities also cooperated with the Ministry of Education and Training, VTVLive and VTV4 Foreign Television Channel to prepare for recording and producing teaching programs.
President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities Hoang Anh Tuan pledged that the University will ensure the best quality in terms of expertise, all learning materials will be standardized to be deployed to people all over the world. The University hopes that with the drastic investment and close attention of the leaders of VNU, especially VNU Director Le Quan and the resonance of the State's policies, the program will achieve many good results in the coming time.

Head of the Department of Cooperation and Development of VNU Nguyen Thi Anh Thu emphasized that teaching and learning Vietnamese for generations of Vietnamese people living abroad is not only within the expertise of VNU but also the responsibility of a leading academic institution to the country. In addition to teaching Vietnamese, VNU also expands scholarship and exchange opportunities for overseas Vietnamese around the world to contribute to the overall development of the country.
VNU Vice President Pham Bao Son highly appreciated the strong commitment of lecturers and researchers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in an important but also very complicated task of teaching Vietnamese to overseas Vietnamese. In order to soon put the activities into practice, the Vice President suggested that the University should promote the construction of an online channel in parallel with the completion of textbooks and learning materials, and hoped that the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese would make specific requirements on the recipients of the lectures so that VNU lecturers could have a suitable approach, aiming for the channel to be launched in early 2022.
Ambassador Luong Thanh Nghi agreed with the viewpoint of VNU Vice President Pham Bao Son, hoping that both sides would join hands to implement the project vigorously, in the spirit of learning from experience while doing it. The Committee will coordinate with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in selecting beneficiaries and communication work. The Committee will actively connect VNU with the overseas Vietnamese community so that VNU can attract more talents to work and study.
