Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh (Vice Rector of the University) chaired the conference.
In the summary report on the enrollment activities for regular undergraduate and postgraduate training in 2021, Dr. Hoang Van Quynh - Deputy Head of the Training Department - shared the following information: In 2021, the number of applications for university admission based on high school graduation exam results for the university's majors/training programs increased by more than 42% compared to 2020, reaching 42,148 applications. Of these, the proportion of first, second, and third choice applications accounted for over 44% of the total applications, and no major/training program had fewer applications than the announced quota. Applications for admission combinations including foreign languages accounted for over 72%, a significant increase compared to the more than 60% in 2020. There were 1,577 applications with over 2,800 preferences from candidates applying for direct admission, priority admission, admission based on international certificates, and results from the aptitude test organized by Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), more than double the number in 2020.
Thus, the number of applications across all admission methods increased significantly compared to 2020, especially in methods such as admission based on international certificates and admission based on high school graduation exam results. The admission process on the Ministry of Education and Training's common admissions software was conducted openly, transparently, and accurately. The total number of admitted students across the university exceeded the set target, with all majors/programs achieving an admission rate of 100% or higher. The 2021 admission confirmation and enrollment process was conducted entirely online. Admissions counseling activities were promptly implemented both in person and online. The enrollment for the second degree program was also carried out according to plan and met its targets.
In addition, some limitations in the admissions process were also pointed out, such as: Communication in general and admissions promotion and counseling in particular lacked coordination among different units within the university; the structure of admission combinations and admission requirements in some majors/programs were still unsuitable; some tasks in the admissions process were still carried out manually, without investing in the application of information technology, such as collecting applications for direct admission and priority admission…
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam (Head of Training Department) delivered a speech at the Conference.
In the 2022 admissions season, to adapt to the still complex situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, several specific directions and activities in university admissions were proposed, such as: Focusing on developing products and implementing online admissions promotion and counseling methods instead of direct counseling activities; Building an online application system for specific admission groups: direct admission, priority admission, admission based on aptitude test results and international certificates; Adjusting admission combinations and adding academic performance requirements for admission based on high school exam results to suit the quality requirements and training content of each major/program; Increasing the proportion of admission quotas for specific admission groups such as national outstanding students, students from specialized high schools, students with international certificates, students with aptitude test results from Vietnam National University, Hanoi, etc. Organize a series of online admissions counseling activities with the theme "Humanities Journey – Road to USSH" including: livestreaming to introduce admissions information, majors/programs, training units, learning environment, etc.; creating videos and e-lectures introducing course content or some typical and specific courses of each major/program and posting them on fanpage, YouTube, website, etc., so that students can access and better understand the majors/programs of the University; revising and perfecting existing materials introducing majors and professions, including "Handbook of Social Sciences and Humanities Majors," "Humanities Infographic – What to Study? What to Do?" and publishing them as e-books; coordinating with Vietnam National University, Hanoi, other universities, and media agencies to organize online admissions counseling programs and post the University's admissions information, etc.

Regarding postgraduate admissions, in 2021, the University organized two admission rounds, admitting 376 master's students and 69 doctoral candidates, exceeding 100% of the assigned targets. This year, postgraduate admissions have new features, including the addition of direct admission to master's programs by Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), and a flexible shift from in-person to online admissions to suit the complex pandemic situation and encourage candidates to confidently participate in the entrance exams. Postgraduate admissions also incorporated feedback to address shortcomings such as: difficulties in recruiting for some specialized master's and doctoral programs; the limitation of distant and closely related fields within specific disciplines significantly impacting eligible candidates; the need for more attention to supplementary knowledge in some units; and the need to strengthen communication and promotion of postgraduate admissions…
At the conference, Vice Rector Lai Quoc Khanh affirmed: Despite facing numerous difficulties, the university had a very successful admissions period for all programs, with an increase in the number of successful applicants and a higher quality of incoming students compared to previous periods. This positive result was achieved due to several reasons: the quality of the university's training activities remained assured; the university maintained its prestige and brand appeal in society; the adaptability and flexibility in admissions work suited the actual situation; good coordination between departments; and the dedication of the admissions staff…
Dr. Hoang Van Quynh (Training Department) presented the Report on University and Postgraduate Admissions in 2021 and the Admissions Plan for 2022.
The Vice Rector also emphasized that, in the long term, to attract students interested in the University's training programs, the most important thing that the University and its training units need to do relates to the way training programs are developed, the quality of the content of the training programs, and the possibility of articulation between training programs... In the short term, the restructuring of postgraduate training programs will be implemented to increase interdisciplinary and inter-field connections; increase common courses to promote human resource articulation and create attractiveness for the training programs; increase opportunities for students to pursue dual degrees and expand postgraduate admission opportunities… 2022 will also be a year to strengthen quality accreditation work in all systems and implement the conditions for building economic and technical standards for training programs. The University also requested that units promptly propose adjustments to the admission criteria if necessary, and open timely and effective supplementary classes for postgraduate entrance exams. The school will also consider options related to the new regulations of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, regarding the non-establishment of foreign language as an entrance exam subject for postgraduate programs.
