The "Youth Innovation in Governance and Development of the Mekong River Basin" (YICMG) is a competition for university students from six Mekong River Basin countries: China, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The aim of the competition is to strengthen environmental and economic cooperation among Mekong River Basin countries, enhance international perspectives, and foster the creativity and governance capabilities of young people in these countries. Students will develop youth projects aimed at developing and protecting this region, which is rich in cultural exchange. The best projects from each country will be selected for the final round.

Professor Hoang Anh Tuan delivered a speech at the Closing Ceremony of the YICMG Competition.
Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 Final Round was held online with the participation of students from 6 countries in the Mekong River basin. Representing Vietnam were the Diplomatic Academy and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities had 75 students registered with 25 projects, of which 12 were selected for the competition. In the Final Round, the university's students won 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes, and 2 third prizes.

Speaking at the Closing Ceremony of the 5th Youth Innovation Competition on Governance and Development of the Mekong River Basin (YICMG), Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) shared that Vietnam is one of the countries in the Mekong River Basin and has a great interest in the governance and development of this region. Therefore, as a representative of Vietnam, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities highly appreciates the importance of YICMG in building collective strength among countries to solve pressing issues in the region. At the same time, the competition is an opportunity for universities and students from six countries to engage in intercultural exchange, international cooperation, and mutual learning, fostering a spirit of innovation and expressing perspectives on practical issues.

According to plans, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, will participate in organizing the 6th YICMG. In the coming time, the University will continue to cooperate with the organizing units to promote and spread the spirit and values of the program to students.
