At the meeting, Ambassador Nadav Eshcar shared his desire to implement a research and teaching program about Israel at universities in Vietnam. This proposal is part of the Israeli government's plan to expand education about Israel in the Asian region. In Vietnam, the Israeli Embassy in Hanoi has chosen the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as a location to implement this idea.
Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his gratitude for the trust of the Embassy of Israel and said that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has the conditions and capabilities to cooperate in implementing the above idea. The Faculty of Oriental Studies of the University has many years of experience in training in majors such as Korean Studies, Japanese Studies, Chinese Studies, Indian Studies, and Southeast Asian Studies. The addition of research content on Israel and Judaism is very practical, bringing many opportunities to expand the knowledge base for students and trainees of the University.
The meeting took place online via Zoom software.
With the above agreement, the two sides discussed some preliminary cooperation plans such as: organizing short-term courses on Israeli language, culture, and history with the participation of teachers and experts from universities in the host country; organizing exchange activities, events, cultural and artistic exhibitions to promote the people and country of Israel; coordinating to find scholarships in Israel for students and trainees of the School. After achieving positive results, the School and the Embassy of Israel will gradually build a major in Israel studies at the Faculty of Oriental Studies.
Once the Covid-19 epidemic is under control, the two sides will continue to discuss specific cooperation issues.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has collaborated with the Embassy of Israel in Vietnam to organize many activities such as the annual Holocaust Memorial Ceremony since 2017. The activities have the participation of a large number of staff, lecturers and students of the University as well as representatives of the Embassy of Israel.
