Expanding cooperation in Vietnamese language training between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Kunming Metallurgical College, China.

On December 5, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU - USSH), along with representatives from the Cooperation and Development Department, the Training Department, and the Faculty of Linguistics, held a meeting and working session with a delegation from Kunming Metallurgical College.
The delegation from Kunming College of Metallurgy included Mr. Chen Li Sheng - Director of the Institute of Environmental and Chemical Industry, Mr. Li Bo Shu - Director of the Institute of Continuing Education, Ms. Wang Yan - Director of the Institute of Foreign Languages, Ms. Song Qun Ling - Vice Director of the Institute of Minerals and Metallurgy, Mr. Ma Zhi Cheng - Vice Director of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, and Ms. Zhang Yu Ting - Head of the Vietnamese Language Research Department, Institute of Foreign Languages.

At the working session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, welcomed the delegation from Kunming Metallurgical College to Vietnam. As a pioneering research and training institution in the social sciences, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a close partner of many international partners. In particular, the university has cooperative relationships with 60 universities and research institutes in China. Chinese students and trainees study at VNU-USSH in various fields across programs from bachelor's to master's and doctoral degrees, as well as short-term training programs.
With 17 faculties, 3 research centers, and 1 research institute, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities offers diverse training and research, combining classical and modern approaches, and integrating basic sciences with highly applied sciences.
Mr. Chen Li Sheng, Director of the Academy of Environmental and Chemical Industry, shared some information about Kunming Metallurgical College: Founded in 1952, the college is based on training and research in natural sciences. With over 42 majors, more than 1,100 lecturers, and nearly 400 professors, Kunming Metallurgical College is recognized as a leading training institution in metallurgy and minerals in China, and a key educational institution in Kunming Province.

As part of its multi-country working trip aimed at promoting international exchange and cooperation, Kunming Metallurgical College wishes to collaborate with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on plans for talent training, faculty development, and knowledge transfer.
Further discussing the training of foreign students at the Faculty of Linguistics, Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Cam Lan shared: As a trusted institution for international students studying in Vietnam, the Faculty of Linguistics welcomes approximately 300 international students annually under the 3+1 program. With over 20 years of cooperation in the Vietnamese language specialization with universities in China such as Nanjing Foreign Language University, Shanghai University, Sichuan University, Yunnan Nationalities University, etc., the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is proud to have trained 70-80% of the Vietnamese language lecturers in China.
During the meeting, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Kunming Metallurgical College held preliminary discussions on the initial terms of the MOU. Accordingly, both sides will promote student and faculty exchanges, and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will support faculty training in specialized fields and the Vietnamese language. The delegation also expressed their desire to soon welcome faculty from VNU - USSH to work in Kunming, bringing the Vietnamese language and culture to students at Kunming Metallurgical College.
