Expressing sincere gratitude for the kind gesture of the Japan Society for Science (JSS) towards the lecturers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the university - expressed his admiration for JSS's contributions over the past 100 years in Vietnam and other countries. Highly appreciating the significance of JSS's book donation project for learning and research activities at the university, specifically in the Japanese Studies department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan believes this will be the beginning of many long-term and sustainable cooperation programs between the two institutions.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan shared that this was a "fortunate encounter" between VNU-USSH and JSS, as the cooperation between the two units took place precisely when Vietnam and Japan were celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations.
Earlier, in early November 2023, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in collaboration with the Vietnam-Japan University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, organized an international scientific conference on the theme "Vietnam-Japan Relations: Past - Present - Future" to evaluate research results on the two countries by Vietnamese and Japanese scholars. This was a forum for young researchers, graduate students, and doctoral candidates from both countries to exchange and share research results, contributing to strengthening cooperative relations and promoting exchanges between the two nations.

Speaking at the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement, Mr. Takahashi Masayuki - President of the Japan Science Association - shared his personal joy and that of the Japan Science Association when the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, participated in the Book Envoy Project, a research book donation project of the Japan Science Association.

Japan Science SocietyJSS is a public service organization established in 1924 with the aim of reviving science and technology, popularizing and enlightening society with scientific and technological knowledge, and on that basis promoting international exchange programs. The international exchange program began in 1999, and to date, over 24 years, JSS has donated more than 4 million books to 86 Chinese universities that offer Japanese language programs, supporting the enhancement of understanding of Japanese culture, language, education, and learning the Japanese language.
Based on that experience, in 2022, JSS launched the Book Envoy project, expanding book donations to five universities in four countries (India, Thailand, the Philippines, and Uzbekistan) with the goal of developing scientific research and training human resources, especially in the social sciences and humanities in Asian countries.
Mr. Takahashi Masayuki emphasized that, given its position as the leading university in Vietnam in research and training in the field of social sciences and humanities, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, was selected by JSS as the first university in Vietnam to participate in this project.
Mr. Takahashi Masayuki, President of the Japan Society for the Gifted, shared his personal joy and that of the Japan Society for the Gifted when the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, participated in the research book donation project.
The President of the Japan Society of Science hopes that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, will become a key institution for Japanese studies and for training human resources proficient in the Japanese language in Vietnam.
The signing of the cooperation agreement between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, and the Japan Society for Science is a practical activity in the series of commemorative events.
