Receiving and working with the delegation from Chulalongkorn University (Thailand)

On the morning of January 30, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) chaired a meeting with a delegation from Chulalongkorn University (Thailand). Also in attendance were leaders from the Department of Cooperation and Development, Training, Student Affairs and Student Support, and staff and lecturers from the Department of Southeast Asian Studies (Faculty of Oriental Studies). Representing Chulalongkorn University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant (Head of the Faculty of Literature) and Prof. Dr. Nirada Chitakara (Vice Head of the Faculty of Literature).
In her opening remarks, Vice Rector Dang Thi Thu Huong expressed her delight at welcoming the delegation from Chulalongkorn University, the first international delegation to visit the university immediately after the traditional Vietnamese Lunar New Year. Vice Rector Dang Thi Thu Huong also introduced the delegation to the history, traditions, training programs, and achievements of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, particularly emphasizing areas of cooperation between the two sides: language, literature, culture, and art. With its strength as one of Vietnam's leading universities in training and scientific research in the fields of social sciences and humanities, and with experience cooperating with nearly 300 universities and educational organizations worldwide, the cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Chulalongkorn University will certainly be very effective. We understand that Chulalongkorn University is a large university with a long and distinguished tradition, among the best in Thailand and Southeast Asia. Therefore, strengthening cooperation in the future will both leverage the resources and strengths of both institutions, and expand opportunities for overseas study and scientific research for lecturers and students of both universities.
Associate Professor Suradech Chotiudompant (Head of the Faculty of Literature, Chulalongkorn University) extended his best wishes to the leadership and all staff, lecturers, and students of the University on the occasion of the traditional Vietnamese New Year, and affirmed that the relationship between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Chulalongkorn University has been established for a long time with an MOU signed in 1995. Since then, the results of cooperative activities have played an important role in helping Chulalongkorn University enhance its position in the education system of Thailand and the region. Associate Professor Suradech Chotiudompant congratulated the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on the achievements it has made in recent years, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic when the university maintained stability and development in all areas. Therefore, to further leverage the resources of both units and meet the demands of the current situation, Associate Professor Suradech Chotiudompant proposed signing a cooperation agreement with new content, emphasizing several key areas: promoting collaborative training programs in the Thai language, international languages ​​and cultures, media, globalization, etc.
Representatives from the Departments and Faculties of Oriental Studies expressed their appreciation for the specific proposals from Chulalongkorn University and hoped that both sides would soon finalize the signing of a cooperation agreement to provide a legal basis for implementing activities in the future.
Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong once again thanked Associate Professor Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant and the delegation for visiting the university, and affirmed several areas where the two sides could cooperate effectively: student, lecturer, and expert exchange; joint training programs in language, communication, culture, Thai language, etc.; awarding scholarships for academic study and scientific research; organizing seminars, etc.
At the end of the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant shared information about the plan to establish a network of ASEAN leaders in the field of social sciences and humanities, with a workshop expected to be held in Bangkok (Thailand) around May-June 2023, and invited representatives from the university's Board of Directors to attend. Rector Hoang Anh Tuan, on behalf of the Board of Directors, thanked them and accepted the invitation.
Representatives from both units exchanged commemorative gifts and took commemorative photos.

After the working session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant and Prof. Dr. Nirada Chitakara visited the Tradition Room and listened to a presentation about the history and development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
