Receiving and working with the delegation of Chulalongkorn University (Thailand)

On the morning of January 30, 2023, Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) chaired a meeting with the delegation of Chulalongkorn University (Thailand). Also attending were leaders of the Department of Cooperation and Development, Training, Student Affairs, staff and lecturers of the Department of Southeast Asian Studies (Faculty of Oriental Studies). Representatives of Chulalongkorn University included Associate Professor, Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant (Head of the Department of Literature) and Professor, Dr. Nirada Chitakara (Deputy Head of the Department of Literature).
In her opening speech, Vice President Dang Thi Thu Huong expressed her joy when the University welcomed the delegation of Chulalongkorn University, the first international delegation to visit the University right after the traditional Vietnamese Lunar New Year. Vice President Dang Thi Thu Huong also introduced to the delegation the history, traditions, training programs, and achievements of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, especially emphasizing the areas of cooperation between the two sides: language, literature, culture, and art. With the strength of being one of the leading universities in Vietnam in training and scientific research in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities, with experience in cooperating with nearly 300 universities and educational organizations in the world, the cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Chulalongkorn University will certainly be very effective. We know that Chulalongkorn University is a large university with a long tradition that is among the top in Thailand and in the Southeast Asian region. Therefore, promoting cooperation in the coming time will both promote the resources and strengths of the two units and expand opportunities for studying and doing scientific research abroad for lecturers and students of the two schools.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant (Head of the Faculty of Literature, Chulalongkorn University) sent best wishes to the Board of Directors and all staff, lecturers and students of the University on the occasion of the traditional Vietnamese New Year, and affirmed that the relationship between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Chulalongkorn University has been established for a long time with the MOU signed in 1995. Since then, the results from cooperation activities have played an important role in helping Chulalongkorn University improve its position in the training system of Thailand and the region. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant congratulated the achievements that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has achieved in recent years, especially during the Covid pandemic, the University has maintained stability and development in all fields. Therefore, to further promote the resources of the two units and meet the requirements of the current situation, Associate Professor Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant proposed to sign a cooperation agreement with new contents, emphasizing some key points: promoting training cooperation programs on Thai language, languages, international culture, communications, globalization, etc.
Representatives of the Oriental Studies departments and faculties expressed their appreciation for the specific proposals of Chulalongkorn University and hoped that the two sides would soon complete the signing of a cooperation agreement as a legal basis for implementing activities in the coming time.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong once again thanked Associate Professor, Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant and the delegation for visiting the school, and affirmed some contents that the two sides can cooperate effectively: exchange of students, lecturers, experts; coordinate training programs on languages, communications, culture, Thai language, etc.; award scholarships for study and scientific research; organize seminars, etc.
At the end of the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant exchanged information about the plan to establish a network of leaders in the field of social sciences and humanities of ASEAN, expected to hold a workshop in Bangkok (Thailand) around May-June 2023 and invited representatives of the school's Board of Directors to attend. Principal Hoang Anh Tuan, on behalf of the Board of Directors, thanked and accepted the invitation.
Representatives of the two units exchanged souvenirs and took souvenir photos.

After the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Suradech Chotiudompant and Professor Dr. Nirada Chitakara visited the Traditional Room and listened to an introduction about the history of establishment and development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
