USSH promotes research and training cooperation with French partners.

At the invitation and with funding from the Vietnamica Project, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan and a delegation from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) visited and worked with several French partners to enhance the effectiveness of cooperation activities in the future.
The Vietnamica Project concludes successfully.
Over the past five years, through the Vietnamica project, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has utilized resources to support postgraduate training in the fields of Sino-Vietnamese Studies, Archaeology, History, and Heritage. Within the framework of the Vietnamica funding program, 12 master's students, 4 doctoral candidates, and 3 postdoctoral researchers have conducted theses, dissertations, and research projects. Of these, the University has 7 master's students, 1 doctoral candidate, and 1 postdoctoral researcher.
In particular, high-quality theses and dissertations edited and published by Vietnamica within the framework of the Project aim to support young researchers in developing sustainable expertise and disseminating new knowledge to the academic community.
Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dang Hong Son, spoke about the results and future directions for promoting postgraduate training cooperation at the Vietnamica Project Closing Conference, held on September 4th at the French School of Far Eastern Studies (EFEO) in Paris, France.
Along with its postgraduate training component, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities collaborates with the Vietnamica Project and the Institute of Han Nom Studies (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) to organize in-depth research activities on stelae. To date, dozens of research books on ancient Vietnamese stelae have been published; dozens more manuscripts are being finalized for publication in the near future.
Some publications are co-organized by Vietnamica – University of Social Sciences and Humanities – Institute of Han Nom Studies.
EFEO – USSH promotes archaeological research.
On September 4, 2025, Professor Nicolas Fiévé, Director of the French Institute of Far Eastern Studies, chaired a meeting with Rector Hoang Anh Tuan to finalize a comprehensive cooperation plan for the period 2025-2030.
Accordingly, the two sides agreed to sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement to elevate their relationship to a new level. EFEO and USSH will organize research and publication activities on archaeology in particular, and social sciences and humanities in general. USSH will receive French experts to teach and conduct research periodically at the University; EFEO will support USSH in training young experts in archaeology, especially in less commonly used ancient languages ​​such as Latin, Pali, Sanskrit, etc., through short-term and long-term scholarship programs in Paris (France), Pondicherry (India), Jakarta (Indonesia), Chiangmai (Thailand), etc. Initially, the two sides will cooperate to exploit, digitize, preserve, and research, with the aim of organizing an international conference and publishing on Champa inscriptions in early 2026.

Visiting and working at the French Academy.
During their time in Paris, the university delegation visited and worked at the French Academy. There, the delegation was introduced by the Permanent President of the Institute of Inscriptions and Fine Arts to the history and organizational structure of the French Academy, as well as the Academy's interests and research on Vietnam and Indochina. The delegation also visited and was shown the place where Professor Phan Huy Le worked when he was appointed a member of the Foreign Correspondents Institute of the French Academy.

EPHE and USSH strengthen cooperation in applying technology in research.
Discussing the potential for cooperation between the two institutions, Professor Michel Hochmann, Director of the French Institute for Advanced Studies (EPHE), shared his vision for strengthening support for the University in applying technology to research. In particular, he highlighted how new technology platforms and software in social sciences and humanities research could be effective in archaeology and bibliography research at USSH.
Initially, the two units will exchange ideas to find a joint research project, through which EPHE can provide expert support to enhance technology transfer into social sciences and humanities research in Vietnam.

Aix Marseille and USSH collaborate on a Master's program in Digital Archiving.
During the meeting with the leaders of the University and Aix Marseille University, Professor Guy Le Thiec spent a significant amount of time discussing with Professor Hoang Anh Tuan the history of research cooperation between the two sides and the prospects for future collaborative training. Professor Guy Le Thiec pledged to support USSH in successfully implementing the Master's program in Digital Archiving in the near future.
Accordingly, Aix Marseille University will send experts to Hanoi to teach and mentor faculty members of the University, provide scholarships for students to undertake internships and complete their dissertations at Aix Marseille, and continue to provide funding for USSH faculty members to attend professional development courses and academic exchanges at Aix Marseille University in the fields of archives, heritage, culture, history, etc.

ANOM - USSH promotes the project on Vietnamese Cultural Documentation Abroad.
As part of their working visit, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan and Vice Rector Dang Hong Son visited and worked at the French Overseas Archives (ANOM) to promote the project of collecting and researching Vietnamese cultural documents abroad by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The Director of ANOM, Mr. Romain Joulia, highly appreciated the significance of the project being implemented by the University, and committed to providing maximum support so that the University can utilize the French documents related to Vietnam currently preserved at ANOM. He also expressed his readiness to support Aix Marseille - USSH in implementing the Digital Archiving training project.
