On September 22nd, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Vice Rector in charge of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), met and worked with Mr. Le Ba Lam, Deputy Director of the Library and Information Center, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (LIC), to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two sides in building LIC's digitized learning resources and finding solutions to improve the efficiency of accessing learning resources for lecturers, students, and postgraduate students of USSH.

USSH and LIC are strengthening cooperation in developing and utilizing digital learning materials.

Deputy Director Le Ba Lam provided information on LIC's recent efforts in digitizing the learning materials system and reforming administrative procedures, improving the quality of service to readers, diversifying communication methods, and reaching out to staff, lecturers, students, and trainees within VNU.

Accordingly, by early 2020, LIC had digitized over 50,000 documents, making them easily accessible online through its web and app systems. These documents were categorized according to the needs and purposes of each unit, down to specific academic disciplines and subjects. In addition to the volume of documents and information serving specialized research and teaching, LIC also possesses a large amount of updated material on topics such as scientific research methods and soft skills development for lecturers and students. Notably, immediately after the establishment of the High School for Social Sciences and Humanities, the LIC library staff quickly developed a system of documents to support teaching, learning, and reference for the school's teachers and students.

Regarding LIC's internally generated digital resources, faculty and students from USSH have contributed a significant amount, totaling 32,000 dissertations and theses, 12 scientific journals, 5,000 conference proceedings, and scientific articles. These resources are considered crucial for improving academic quality and supporting the development of a research university. The number of visits to USSH's internally generated digital resources is also recorded as the highest.

However, one limitation remains: the number of USSH faculty and students accessing and utilizing LIC's learning resources is still quite modest compared to the potential of the staff. To support the goal of building a research university, innovating teaching methods towards the application of information technology, and establishing the library as the heart and center for disseminating scientific knowledge within a university, LIC proposes to USSH solutions for stronger cooperation and communication to provide faculty and students with broader access to LIC's learning resources.

Specifically, LIC suggested that the University share learning resources on social sciences and humanities disciplines for preservation and digitization; regularly provide the library with internal resources from USSH; and develop solutions to help the library reach every staff member and student to disseminate information. The two units also need to cooperate in promoting these learning resources through Facebook, email, website, etc.

In particular, to facilitate the upcoming enrollment of new students, LIC is committed to simplifying administrative procedures, waiving the student ID card requirement and immediately providing digital learning resource access accounts to first-year students upon enrollment - Deputy Director Le Ba Lam emphasized.

Professor Hoang Anh Tuan highly appreciated the efforts of the Information and Library Center of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) in recent years in building a large and rich source of learning materials, meeting the needs of research and training activities within VNU. This is a "gold mine" that needs to be exploited and used more effectively by VNU staff, students, and trainees.

USSH also committed to comprehensive cooperation with LIC in building a digital learning resource repository. And “it is necessary to form a culture of sharing information resources among units within VNU, thereby encouraging a reading culture and spreading academic knowledge within the VNU community.” The University of Social Sciences and Humanities will strengthen regular and targeted communication to staff and students about this initiative.

The university also expressed its delight at LIC's attention and maximum support for new students of USSH. “We are committed to creating a link between the two units to serve research, training, and the common tasks of VNU. Close cooperation is essential, based on leveraging each side's strengths; one side aiming to serve more and better, and the other to utilize learning resources more effectively, thereby improving the quality of teaching and learning to meet new requirements,” said Professor Hoang Anh Tuan at the meeting.
