At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh introduced to Mr. Joerg Helmke about the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities, the first high school specializing in training in Social Sciences and Humanities in Vietnam. The school officially organized the entrance exam in July 2020, including the English exam with relatively good results from the candidates. With the policy of comprehensive training and internationalization, the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities focuses on foreign language training for students. In addition to English as the main foreign language, the school plans to teach German as a second foreign language. With that wish, the school hopes to receive cooperation from ZfA in supporting the teaching of this language.
Dr. Joerg Helmke expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and appreciated the idea of choosing German as the language of instruction at the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities. ZfA is ready to support the School in improving the German language proficiency of its lecturers, providing learning materials, and exchanging professional knowledge. He also invited the School to join PASCH - the Network of High Schools Teaching German, with more than 2,000 members.
After the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu invited Mr. Joerg Helmke to visit the facilities, landscape and classrooms of the School to get an overview in order to plan the next directions of cooperation.
The German Education Abroad Committee (ZfA) was founded in 1968 and has cooperated with more than 1,200 schools. Since 2008, ZfA has supported German language teaching in Vietnam and researched, surveyed and selected high schools suitable for the program. With the support of ZfA, nearly 20 high schools in provinces and cities in Vietnam have implemented German language teaching.
