VNU-USSH signed a cooperation agreement with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Hanoi city

On January 2, 2025, on the first day back to work after the New Year holiday, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Hanoi signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation.
Attending the signing ceremony were Most Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council and Head of the Central Propagation Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), Head of the Executive Committee of the Hanoi Buddhist Sangha; Most Venerable Thich Chieu Tue, Member of the Executive Council, Deputy Head of the Central Propagation Committee of the VBS, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of the VBS in Hanoi; Most Venerable Thich Dao Phong, Member of the Executive Council, Chief Secretary of the Executive Committee of the VBS in Hanoi; Most Venerable Thich Vien Duc, Chief of Office of the Executive Committee of the VBS in Hanoi.
On behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, there were Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Party Secretary, Rector; representatives of the Board of Directors of the Department of Cooperation and Development, Faculty of History, along with scientists and lecturers of the University.
In his welcoming speech, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan respectfully thanked Most Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem as well as the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Hanoi for visiting and signing a cooperation agreement with the University in the first days of 2025. Over the past years, with the strength of being a unit with a tradition and leading position in research and training in the fields of social sciences and humanities, a team of leading experts in the fields of history, cultural studies, literature, religious studies, philosophy, heritage, Han Nom, etc., the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has coordinated with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Hanoi to carry out many activities: professional training for staff, research, collection of documents, organizing seminars, proposing valuable policy advice to the Government, ministries, branches, central and local agencies. The cooperation document signed today will be an important legal basis, officially opening a new stage of development of extensive and effective cooperation between the two units in preserving and promoting the value of the nation's cultural heritage.

Principal Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his hope for sustainable and effective cooperation between the School and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in training and research.
 
Agreeing with the cooperation proposals from the school's leaders, Most Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem further emphasized: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the few units in Vietnam with a tradition and systematic training in the fields of religious studies, Han Nom, history, cultural studies, etc. with a team of highly qualified lecturers and researchers. Therefore, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha believes that cooperation projects, especially those related to the collection, preservation, and promotion of heritage values ​​in general, and Buddhist heritage in particular, will be successfully implemented with high scientific quality. On the occasion of the upcoming New Year of the Snake, Most Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem sent his best wishes for health, success, and happiness to all teachers, students, and pupils; wishing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to grow stronger and achieve many brilliant achievements.

Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem expressed his gratitude for the warm feelings and thoughtful and solemn reception that the School's leaders, staff and lecturers gave to the Delegation.
 
Delegates from the Faculty of History and the Department of Religious Studies attending the signing ceremony expressed their respect and appreciation for the value of the cooperation opportunity, aiming to exploit the strengths of training institutions, socio-political organizations, increase resources for research, and preserve national heritage. In addition, the delegates also proposed a number of specific contents for the two sides to promote cooperation in the coming time: coordinating the organization of archival document translation projects, organizing scientific seminars, training and improving the qualifications of staff, postgraduate training, etc.

Most Venerable Thich Chieu Tue, Member of the Executive Council, Deputy Head of the Central Propagation Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Deputy Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Hanoi, spoke emphasizing the value of Buddhist heritages and the prospects for cooperation between the two units in collecting, researching, and promoting heritage values ​​in contemporary life.
 
Based on the common goal and exploiting the potential and strengths of the team of experts, while promoting national responsibility in researching, preserving and promoting the values ​​of the nation's human resources, serving the goal of cultural revival in the era of national development, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Hanoi City agreed to sign a cooperation document on 3 groups of activities:
- Research and provide professional advice in the fields of Buddhist cultural heritage; Compile and publish works on Thang Long - Hanoi Buddhism; Develop and implement scientific research programs for the goal of reviving national culture in the era of national development.
- Research and policy consulting in the fields of cultural construction and development;
Preserve and promote the value of cultural heritage; build and develop cultural industry;
Management and development of Buddhist cultural heritage.
- Cooperation in training and coaching to improve the quality of human resources; cooperation in university and postgraduate training.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan and Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem, representing the leaders of the two units, signed a cooperation agreement.
The Memorandum of Understanding is the basis for the two sides to implement specific cooperation programs and activities. The two sides commit to prioritizing the allocation of human resources, legal resources and facilities to ensure the successful and effective implementation of cooperation activities.
