VNU-USSH signs cooperation agreement with German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ)

On November 27, 2024, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) and the German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ) officially signed a cooperation agreement to promote the implementation of the “Digital Skills for Success” (DS2S) project in Vietnam.
Attending the ceremony, on behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam (Vice Chairman of the University Council, Head of the Training Department), and representatives from the Faculty of Information and Library Science and the Department of Cooperation and Development.
Representing the German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ) was Ms. Sita Zimpel, Project Team Leader, GIZ Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan introduced the outstanding achievements of the University in the fields of training, scientific research, and innovation. With a rich tradition of nearly 80 years, VNU-USSH is not only a leading training center in the social sciences and humanities but also a pioneer in the digital transformation process, applying technological achievements to teaching and university management. Since 2020, VNU-USSH has been selected by Meta (formerly Facebook) as its sole official partner in Vietnam to implement many projects on digital competence and artificial intelligence (AI). One of the important results of the project is that VNU-USSH has issued the first Digital Competency Framework for students in Vietnam, which has been referenced and incorporated into the teaching programs of more than 150 universities. Furthermore, VNU-USSH actively participated in and played a key role in developing the Draft Digital Competency Framework for Learners in the entire national education system, chaired by the Ministry of Education and Training, affirming its leading role in educational and training innovation.

"With that experience, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is ready to participate actively and effectively in the implementation of the 'Digital Skills for Success' (DS2S) Project of the German International Cooperation Organization," affirmed Rector Hoang Anh Tuan.
Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Hung (Head of the Information and Library Science Faculty) also shared: Following the success of the initial collaborations, Meta continues to support and partner with VNU-USSH in implementing the project "Enhancing the capacity to apply GEN AI in teaching and learning for lecturers and students". The project has been implemented since the end of 2023 and has achieved very promising initial results.

Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam expressed his hope that with the support and collaboration of GIZ, the "Digital Skills for Success" project will be successfully implemented and will certainly bring many practical values ​​to students and lecturers not only of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities but also many other universities in Vietnam.
 
Introducing GIZ and the goals and content of the "Digital Skills to Succeed" (DS2S) project, Ms. Sita Zimpel emphasized: As a leading organization in the field of international cooperation, GIZ, with over 60 years of experience and operations in more than 120 countries, is committed to supporting sustainable development goals globally. The "Digital Skills to Succeed" (DS2S) project is an initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aimed at enhancing digital skills for university students, especially women, in Bangladesh, India, and Vietnam, through three main outcomes: Building a Digital Skills Network and training centers; Strengthening the capacity of universities; and Collaborating with German universities and businesses to co-create digital skills courses for students.
Ms. Sita Zimpel expressed her surprise and admiration for the results of the University's digital skills projects and affirmed that the cooperation with VNU-USSH is an important step for the Project to promote sustainable values, especially in areas such as education, environment, and economic development. With its leading experts and experience, VNU-USSH will certainly become a potential partner in the digital skills network, contributing expertise and resources to promote collaborative initiatives and support Vietnamese students in enhancing their digital capabilities in the context of global digital transformation. The active participation of VNU-USSH will not only help form a regional connectivity platform but also create conditions for Vietnam to become one of the leading countries in developing high-quality human resources; participating in solving common challenges of the world and the region in the future.

Ms. Sita Zimpel shared a lot of information about the "Digital Skills for Success" (DS2S) project and the specific goals the project aims to achieve when implemented in Vietnam.

After exchanging and discussing opportunities for cooperation and the participation and roles of each party in the Project, the two sides agreed to sign a cooperation agreement with several key contents:
GIZ is committed to coordinating and supporting this network to develop sustainably, create a positive impact, contribute to enhancing digital skills, and address common regional challenges in the future.
- The two sides will collaborate in organizing Capacity Development Programs for faculty, staff, and students of the University, focusing on specialized certificate courses in digital skills, with funding from GIZ.
- GIZ will support universities in identifying and connecting with potential partners in relevant industries to provide practical learning opportunities for students, bridging the gap between universities and businesses/employers, giving students valuable practical experiences to supplement their academic studies, improving employment opportunities, and ensuring students are well-prepared to meet the high demands of the labor market.
- The two sides will collaborate on a series of seminars on digital skills, featuring presentations from leading experts in Vietnam and other countries on topics such as advanced technology and digital competence, and career trends in the rapidly developing digital landscape.
- Both sides will periodically hold meetings, in person or online, to develop and agree on operational plans, while ensuring the Project is implemented on schedule and with quality.
Concluding the signing ceremony, Rector Hoang Anh Tuan once again expressed his gratitude to Ms. Sita Zimpel and the leadership of the German International Cooperation Organization for trusting and giving the University of Social Sciences and Humanities the opportunity to become an important partner in the DS2S Project network. VNU-USSH commits to participating responsibly and actively coordinating with other relevant parties, including universities, government agencies, research institutes, and private entities, to contribute to the implementation of the Project in order to bring practical value to lecturers, students, and young workers in Vietnam.
