At the working session between the two units, on the side of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, Hanoi, the attendees included Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the university, along with leaders of functional departments, faculties/institutes, and a large number of lecturers and students from VNU-USSH.
Representing the Journal of Vietnamese Studies were Associate Professor Kathleen Baldanza – a specialist in History and Asian Studies from Pennsylvania State University, USA, and Associate Professor Martina Thucnhi Nguyen – a history specialist at Baruch College, New York, USA, along with several members of the journal.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, hopes that the valuable scientific research of VNU-USSH will be disseminated more widely within the Vietnamese and international scientific research communities.
Welcoming the goodwill of the Vietnam Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities in receiving and sharing experiences to publish scientific topics and articles from researchers and lecturers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the university, hopes that valuable scientific research from VNU-USSH, with the support of JVS, will be disseminated more widely in the Vietnamese and international scientific research community.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-USSH, has a mission to be a leader in training high-quality, highly skilled human resources; researching, creating, and disseminating knowledge in social sciences and humanities. Research on the historical traditions, culture, society, country, and people of Vietnam; the unique development model and path of Vietnam; the role and position of Vietnam in regional and international relations; national sovereignty and security, with a focus on border issues, maritime territories, territorial processes, etc., are priority research areas and strengths of the university. Therefore, VNU-USSH scientists have many advantages in publishing research papers and articles in prestigious domestic and international journals, including the Journal of Vietnamese Studies.



During the meeting, scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, exchanged views with representatives of the Journal of Vietnamese Studies on research methods and the necessary elements of a research paper to meet the publication criteria of JVS. According to representatives of the Journal of Vietnamese Studies, research topics and articles should emphasize novel research values stemming from real-world experiences in the fields of Vietnamese history, politics, culture, and society. Publication in JVS will open up opportunities for scientific research topics and articles to interact with the international scientific community in these research fields.
Representatives from JVS magazine also expressed their desire to connect with scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in book reviews and other in-depth research activities.
The Journal of Vietnamese Studies (JVS) is a journal published by the University of California Press. First launched in 2006, it is published on behalf of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. The journal publishes research in the social sciences and humanities (Vietnamese history, politics, culture, and society), including book reviews, contact information for editors, and translations of Vietnamese documents and texts. The journal's ISSN is 1559-372X.
