Attending the conference were Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Hoang Giang, representatives of the Departments and Bureaus under the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and representatives of some local Departments of Science and Technology. Conference Overview
Speaking at the opening of the conference, VNU President Le Quan happily shared that with the policies that have been implemented, VNU has attracted more than 100 highly qualified young scientists to work and the number of scientific articles published in prestigious international journals has also increased sharply with 1,600 articles in 2022. Along with that, in terms of rankings, the index of employer satisfaction and the prestige index in the community of VNU are increasing strongly. Recently, according to the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking (THE Impact), VNU is listed in the world's top 70 educational institutions for quality education.
Regarding the orientation of science and technology development in 2023, Director Le Quan emphasized: 2023 is identified by VNU as a breakthrough year in science and technology activities. In addition to the science and technology policies issued and implemented in the past, VNU will focus on developing applied research, transferring and commercializing science and technology products, removing obstacles in establishing science and technology enterprises; prioritizing investment resources for research groups with good publications and key national science and technology programs/topics; focusing on implementing the strategy of developing an interdisciplinary laboratory system in the 22.9-hectare area in Hoa Lac to innovate the organization of research associated with the needs of businesses, aiming to create research that participates in solving major problems of the country and science and technology products applied in practice.

Reporting on the implementation of the science, technology and innovation (S&I) plan in 2023, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Tich - Head of the Department of Science and Technology, VNU, focused on emphasizing the policies and plans for S&I at VNU; highlighting the research achievements and publications of research groups and scientists at VNU; and at the same time proposing key, breakthrough recommendations and solutions to support and promote scientific research and innovation activities in the coming time.

As the head of a strong research group at VNU, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hai - Vice Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, VNU, said that the formation and development of a startup ecosystem and a system of spin-off businesses in universities helps develop scientific and technological resources and increase social influence.

Prof. Dr. Le Hoang Son - Deputy Director of the Institute of Information Technology, VNU, said that, in order to achieve top scientific results and breakthrough technological products associated with intellectual property, VNU continues to implement priority solutions to develop strong research groups, centers of excellence and interconnected networks.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Hoang Giang assessed that the achievements in science, technology and innovation at VNU not only contribute to actively and effectively supporting the task of training high-quality human resources at VNU but also create top-notch products, promote international publications in prestigious scientific journals and increase commercialization of technology transfer.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Hoang Giang suggested that VNU should promote its role and mission to implement the National Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation Development.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Giang suggested that in 2023 and the coming period, VNU should focus on synchronously and effectively implementing the key programs and tasks that have been set out, paying attention to promoting the implementation of key national science and technology programs that VNU is implementing, mobilizing resources to invest in science and technology activities, and being proactive within the legal framework to promote innovation in methods of implementing science and technology activities, especially commercialization activities, transfer of research results, and promoting the development of science and technology enterprises.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Giang requested the leaders of the Departments, Bureaus and units under the Ministry of Science and Technology to continue to pay attention to supporting the science, technology and innovation activities of VNU, proactively coordinate to consider the needs and proposals of VNU, advise the leaders of the Ministry on policies to support VNU in promoting the development of science, technology and innovation activities in 2023 and the following years.
Concluding the conference, VNU President Le Quan once again emphasized VNU's strategy of focusing on investing in science and technology, however, research groups also need to commit to research products and VNU will conduct periodic assessments every 3 years as a basis for funding support. In the Development Strategy to 2030, vision 2045, VNU identifies priorities to focus on science and technology programs and tasks to support local research, aiming to deploy science and technology products for practical application, and develop people's livelihoods. Therefore, VNU really needs the participation of businesses.
At the conference, VNU announced the list of 09 key laboratories/research centers at VNU level for the period 2023-2028, 30 strong research groups at VNU level; announced support for 06 strong research groups/key laboratories to develop products; announced support for 08 scientists with excellent publications and attracted scientists to work at VNU.
Also within the framework of the conference, the President of VNU awarded Certificates of Merit to 04 key laboratories/research centers, 08 strong research groups at VNU level and 75 scientists with outstanding achievements in scientific research and innovation in 2022.
Prof. Dr. Lam Thi My Dung (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) is one of the scientists honored by VNU for her outstanding contributions to scientific research in 2022.
On this occasion, VNU also announced a number of cooperation agreements, sponsorship commitments, and development support from enterprises: T&T Group, Ho Guom Group; Phan Anh Foundation in collaboration with VICO Multi-Platform Technology Joint Stock Company.
