The Four Universities Forum is an academic initiative formed on the basis of a cooperation agreement between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and three leading universities in Taiwan (China): National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, and National Tung Hwa University. This agreement was signed in 2024 at National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan, China), within the framework of the first Forum with the theme “Interregional and Integration - Discussing Culture from an East Asian Perspective.”
This is also an important event in the series of activities leading up to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the tradition and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, delivered the opening remarks at the Second International Science Forum between four universities from Vietnam and Taiwan (China).
Professor Huang Sheng-Tung, Head of the Chinese Department at National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan, China), representing the delegations of scholars from three universities in Taiwan (China), delivered a welcoming speech. Scientists emphasized that the forum was held in a special context as the world is witnessing profound transformations in technology, environment, economy, society, and global politics. Social sciences and humanities not only play a crucial role in explaining and adapting to these issues at the local, national, and global levels, but also form the foundation for shaping the core values of individuals, nations, and humanity.
In that spirit, the forum discussed many issues of profound practical significance, encompassing many fields of contemporary social sciences and humanities: Research on the history, culture, and traditional civilization of East Asia; Research and teaching of Chinese studies in Vietnam and Taiwan (China); Literature and art in East Asian intercultural dialogue; Research and teaching of social sciences and humanities in the digital age and artificial intelligence.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Hong Son - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, chaired the Representative Lecture Session.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Hien - Head of the Department of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, presented a paper on the topic "Vietnam-Taiwan Cooperation in Translation and Literary Research: Practices and Prospects".
International scientists discuss at the forum. In the spirit of exchange, sharing, and collaborative knowledge creation, this year's Four Universities Forum is not only a gathering place for academic knowledge between Vietnam and Taiwan (China), but also an opportunity to define the role of social sciences and humanities in the era of global integration, digitalization, and artificial intelligence – where humanities knowledge is increasingly becoming the foundation for the sustainable development of individuals and society in the 21st century.
