With the great and valuable contributions of Professor, People's Teacher Dinh Xuan Lam and the Dinh Xuan Lam History Award Fund, many generations of lecturers, scientists, students, trainees, and postgraduates of the school have been inspired in historical research and training. As the Head of the Fund's Executive Board, Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Nguyen Van Khanh highly appreciates the dedication and affection that Prof. People's Teacher Dinh Xuan Lam's family has devoted to the Dinh Xuan Lam History Award Fund. Over the past 6 years, the Fund has made many important contributions to the professional development of lecturers, students, trainees, and postgraduates in History at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU in particular and at major universities in Vietnam in general, contributing to promoting the value of historical science.
Each year, the Fund awards 15 prizes, each worth 5,000,000 VND to students majoring in History or students of the regular History department of universities in the North (from Hue and above) with Excellent/Good academic results and achievements in scientific research; awards 3 prizes, each worth 10,000,000 VND to 3 graduate students majoring in History with excellent thesis defense results and many published research works; awards 3 prizes, each worth 20,000,000 VND to 3 doctoral students majoring in History with excellent thesis defense results and many published research works. Awards 1 prize worth 25,000,000 VND to 1 excellent monograph on Vietnamese history published by a reputable publisher.
From 2017 to 2022, the Fund has awarded prizes to 71 students, 18 masters and doctoral students, 02 research projects from universities such as: University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, University of Education, VNU; Hanoi National University of Education; Hue University of Education; Hong Duc University (Thanh Hoa); Vinh University (Nghe An); University of Sciences (Hue University); University of Education (Thai Nguyen University). Of which, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU has the most individuals receiving prizes with 34 prizes.
In 2021, on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the birth of Professor Dinh Xuan Lam, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, in collaboration with the Vietnam Historical Science Association, organized a scientific seminar with the theme "Professor Dinh Xuan Lam - the man and his career".
Mr. Dinh Xuan Tho - Chairman of the Dinh Xuan Lam History Award Fund sincerely thanks the School for its warm welcome and the support of the Board of Directors of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU in developing the Fund's activities over the past 6 years.
Grateful for the support of the leaders of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU and the enthusiasm of the Fund's Executive Board in spreading the humanistic values of the Dinh Xuan Lam Scholarship Fund, Mr. Dinh Xuan Tho - Chairman of the Fund shared the same view in developing, expanding the scale and influence of the Fund in the coming time. Accordingly, from 2023, the value of the award will increase to encourage lecturers, scientists, postgraduates, students and students who are passionate, dedicated and love History to have more valuable achievements in research and study. In addition, the scale of the award will be considered to expand to many universities in the southern provinces. The Fund will also allocate budget to sponsor competitions to learn about Vietnamese History at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU and a number of other training institutions.
In particular, the Fund representative also agreed with the proposal of the leader of the Faculty of History on expanding the award recipients to students majoring in Cultural Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, to increase their opportunities for study and research.

Representatives of the Dinh Xuan Lam History Award Fund visited the traditional room displaying valuable historical publications of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Lam(1925-2017) was born in Son Tan commune (now Tan My Ha commune), Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province, in a family of Nguyen Dynasty mandarins. He started teaching (high school) after the August Revolution in 1945. After graduating from the Faculty of Literature at the University of Pedagogy in 1956, Professor Dinh Xuan Lam was retained at the school to teach at the Faculty of History, Hanoi National University. He is considered one of the founding historians, contributing to the foundation and development of Vietnamese revolutionary history after peace was restored in the North in 1954. During his nearly 6-decade research from the late 1950s until his death, he left behind a legacy of hundreds of research works of various genres.
Prof. Dinh Xuan Lam has made many contributions to the establishment of the Department of Modern and Modern Vietnamese History of the Faculty of History, Hanoi University of Science (now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) as Head of the Department for 30 years; Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, term IV, Chairman of the Scientific Council of the UNESCO Center for Information, Documentation and History of Vietnam.
With his virtue and pedagogical talent, the Professor is admired by colleagues and generations of students, honored as one of the four members of the legendary "Four Pillars" of the History Department (along with Prof. Dr. Phan Huy Le, Prof. Dr. Ha Van Tan, and Prof. Dr. Tran Quoc Vuong). During his 45 years on the podium, he has directly taught, guided and contributed to the training of thousands of students, hundreds of master's students and doctoral candidates from both Vietnam and abroad, many of whom have become prestigious scientists, leaders and managers of many ministries, branches and localities; a number of foreign students have become world-famous diplomats and Vietnam scholars.
Not only a dedicated and talented teacher, Professor Dinh Xuan Lam is also an excellent scientist with a rare passion for science. After only one year of graduation, in 1957, under the direction and support of historian Tran Van Giau, he completed his first work, History of Vietnam in the period 1897-1914 (Construction Publishing House, Hanoi). From then until 2015, researcher Dinh Xuan Lam has continued to diligently research and publish over 570 different works in the form of monographs, references, treatises, scientific articles, document introductions and book reviews... Professor Dinh Xuan Lam's research works mainly focus on issues of modern Vietnamese history such as: the armed movement against the French in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, about Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese revolution, about the reform trend in Vietnamese history...
The History Foundation named after the talented historian and educator, Professor, People's Teacher Dinh Xuan Lam (1925-2017) was established in 2017. The Foundation's headquarters are located at the Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
To promote the achievements in historical training and research of the Professor, and at the same time contribute to encouraging and nurturing historical talents for the country, once a year the Fund organizes awards for students, graduate students, and postgraduates with outstanding achievements in study and research, and young cadres with excellent research works (monographs) published in prestigious publishers at home and abroad.
