This workshop is a significant milestone, the final project in a series of meaningful activities of the 5-year Korean Studies Development Project, aiming to connect and promote Korean studies in Northern Vietnam, centered around Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, and Ha Long. After three years of hard work, we have achieved proud results. Activities such as the "Korean Culture Experience" for high school students and scientific seminars for university students in Thai Nguyen and Ha Long have ignited passion and love for Korea in the younger generation. In particular, the project has also empowered young talents through valuable scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students, encouraging them to continue pursuing their academic paths.
The pioneering role of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in training and research in Korean studies. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, was established in 1945, with its predecessor being the Faculty of Literature under the University of Indochina. For the past 80 years, the University has affirmed its position as one of Vietnam's leading research and training centers, with the mission of cultivating generations of intellectuals with profound professional competence, critical thinking skills, and a spirit of dedication to society.
Throughout its history, pioneering the development of new academic disciplines has always been a top priority for the University. Therefore, just a few years after establishing diplomatic relations, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities became the first educational institution in Vietnam to offer Korean Studies. This program quickly became one of the most popular choices among students. In the 2025-2026 academic year, the university welcomed its K70 cohort of students with high entrance exam scores; many candidates had to achieve perfect scores to be admitted. This not only demonstrates the appeal of Korea to Vietnamese youth but also affirms the superior quality of Korean Studies training at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Throughout its development, the school has always received the companionship and support of the Korean government, organizations, businesses, universities and the Institute of Korean Studies, scientists, and speakers from Korea and Vietnam, contributing to strengthening the sustainable cooperative relationship between the two countries.
The workshop was attended by scientists from South Korea and many universities in Vietnam.
