The research results were announced by scientists on August 31, 2025 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi at the launching ceremony of the book series "Research on National and Territorial Sovereignty in the direction of a comprehensive and holistic approach to Vietnamese History", attracting the attention of agencies, organizations and scientists.
The book launch ceremony is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on September 2, the 80th anniversary of tradition and the 30th anniversary of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, such as: International Conference From the August Revolution to the new era of development: The country's foundation, potential, position and international prestige; Special exhibition on Independence Day Memories and Heritage for Young People... The event was co-organized by four leading historical research and training institutions in the country: University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU Hanoi), Vietnam Historical Science Association, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU Ho Chi Minh City), and University of Education (University of Danang). The ceremony was attended by Dr. Hoang Trung Dung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine; Dr. Quan Minh Cuong - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Cao Bang Province; Prof. Dr. Phung Huu Phu - Former member of the Party Central Committee, Former Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, the first Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Linh - Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Committee; Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh - Member of the Presidium, Head of the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Commission, Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
Crystallization of the intelligence and passion of historians across the country The book series is the result of the first National History Conference held on June 15, 2024 at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - a landmark academic event, which for the first time brought together a large number of historians from all over the country to discuss in-depth on a topic of national significance. With nearly 150 selected papers, the book series is structured into three volumes, demonstrating a comprehensive and holistic approach.
Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi delivered the opening speech at the ceremony.
The book series consists of 3 volumes, synthesizing outstanding papers from the first National History Conference, edited by Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Nguyen Quang Ngoc; and co-edited by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Cuong and Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan. Volume I: Some general issues on territorial sovereignty and land borders (Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, editor-in-chief):Includes 67 articles on the process of formation, establishment, management and protection of Vietnam's mainland territory through the ages. Volume II: East Sea: Living space of communities living in Vietnam's territory (Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Nguyen Quang Ngoc, editor-in-chief):Includes 46 articles clarifying the strategic role of the East Sea, the process of exploration, sovereignty enforcement and development of the nation's maritime culture. Volume III: Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos (Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Duc Cuong, editor-in-chief):Including 38 articles providing scientific arguments, historical and legal evidence, affirming Vietnam's undeniable sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. A large-scale scientific work, the crystallization of the intelligence and enthusiasm of historians across the country, focuses on clarifying and affirming fundamental issues regarding the process of establishing and protecting national sovereignty and sacred territory of Vietnam over thousands of years of history.
Scientific work of special importance At the book launch ceremony, scientists emphasized that the work does not stop at synthesizing existing research achievements, but also brings many new discoveries and profound interpretations based on diverse sources of documents, from ancient documents, Nguyen Dynasty records, ancient maps of Vietnam and internationally, to archaeological research results. Using interdisciplinary, objective, and scientific research methods, the authors have convincingly explained the process by which our ancestors established and exercised national sovereignty, territory, seas, and islands continuously and permanently, in accordance with international practices and laws. With such scientific and practical value, the book series is a massive, serious work of special importance. This is a scientific work of high academic value, providing a solid and reliable system of scientific arguments for research, teaching and policy making related to national sovereignty. It is a valuable source of reference for scientists, managers, diplomats and all those interested in the history and destiny of the country. In addition, the book series contributes significantly to propaganda, education, raising awareness and fostering patriotism and national pride among all classes of people, especially the young generation. Reading this book series, we will better understand the efforts and blood of countless generations of ancestors who have shed their lives to give our country the beautiful landscape it is today; and be even more grateful to the tens of thousands of cadres and soldiers who are day and night firmly holding their guns to protect every inch of land, sky and sea of the Fatherland.

In the current international context, the book is a strong voice, a sharp tool in the diplomatic and legal struggle to protect sovereignty over seas and islands. The objective and scientific evidence presented in the book contributes to affirming Vietnam's just and peaceful stance, refuting distorted arguments, unreasonable claims, contrary to historical facts and international law. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Council of Theory, commented that: "The book series provides a lot of basic theoretical and practical knowledge about Vietnam's sovereignty over the entire national territory, including the mainland, seas and islands of the motherland, about the process of establishing and protecting national sovereignty and territory, meeting the requirements and expectations of cadres, soldiers, compatriots nationwide and overseas Vietnamese.
