
Associate Professor, People's Teacher Nguyen Quoc Hung and his wife
Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Hung was born in 1936 into an intellectual family in Hanoi. In 1961, he was sent to study History at the Lenin Pedagogical University in Moscow. In 1964, by decision of the State, he was one of the social science students who returned from the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe to continue his studies at the Faculty of History, Hanoi University. He was a student in the first cohort of the World History major (1965-1966). In 1966, after graduating, he was retained by the Faculty of History, Hanoi University, to teach the Modern World History course and specialized topics on imperialism. In 1993, together with Professor Phan Huy Le and Professor Le Quang Thiem, he participated in the Steering Committee preparing to establish the Faculty of Oriental Studies. When the Faculty of Oriental Studies was officially established in 1995, he transferred to work there, assuming the position of Vice Dean and Head of the Department of Japanese Studies, contributing to the development of the nascent field of Japanese Studies in Vietnam.

As an expert in world history, Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Hung has published many foundational works on modern world history, the history of international relations, the history of the Soviet Union (Russia), and the history of Japan. Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Hung and Professor Vu Duong Ninh
Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Hung is also a skilled administrator, having held many important positions and responsibilities during challenging times for the Faculty and the University. He served as Acting Dean and Vice Dean of the Faculty of History; Vice Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, and the first Dean of the Department of Japanese Studies (Faculty of Oriental Studies). He also played a key role in establishing and developing cooperative relationships between the University, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Faculty of Oriental Studies with external organizations; and focused on building a team of successor staff.

Professor Vu Duong Ninh (Chairman of the Association of Retired Teachers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) sent his best wishes to Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Hung for good health, happiness, and longevity. As a close student of Professor Hung, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Van Quan (Head of the History Department) observed: Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Hung was associated with the History Department from 1966 to 1995. In his main research field of modern world history, he made many noteworthy and impressive contributions to the research, dissemination, and promotion of world history knowledge. In teaching, he was an exemplary teacher, knowledgeable and highly skilled in pedagogy. Professor Hung's engaging and interesting lectures helped students forget the hunger and hardships of that era. His closeness, warmth, and dedication to his profession have ensured that his image remains forever in the thoughts and feelings of generations of students.

Receiving the affection of colleagues and students, Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Hung emotionally stated: "I am fortunate and honored to have studied and worked at the University of Hanoi and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. From officially joining the staff in 1955 until my retirement in 2011, I spent more than 50 years connected with the university and its lecture halls. I am grateful for the help and encouragement of my colleagues, friends, and students during the difficult times in my life." He also shared that, despite some health issues in recent years, he still wishes to contribute more and for a longer time to research and teaching, and to continue to accompany the development of the Faculty, the University, and the younger generation.
