To celebrate the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, on January 31, 2015, the Student Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized the "Spring of Love" program - a festival welcoming the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Goat, with the desire to create a nationalistic playground for students, reviving the atmosphere of the traditional Vietnamese Tet holiday.

Also attending the program were representatives from the Youth Union and Student Association from the central to the grassroots levels: Mr. Trinh Minh Thai (Deputy Head of the Central Youth Union Office), Mr. Vu Van Hai (President of the Student Association of Vietnam National University, Hanoi), and Mr. Bui Xuan Lan (Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Phuong Dong University). From the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the attendees included: Mr. Tran Bach Hieu (Secretary of the University's Youth Union), Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Lan (Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union, President of the University's Student Association), and Mr. Tran Duc Hoa (Vice President of the University's Student Association).

The atmosphere of the program was enlivened when the opening ceremony began with cultural performances from the school's clubs. Unlike the recent warm sunny days, the cool weather and light drizzle seemed to bring the feeling of spring even more strongly, a feeling of nature's transformation. This atmosphere brought the students closer together, spreading the spirit of the festival even more.

Sixteen teams, representing sixteen student associations, showcased their skills in designing giant New Year's greeting cards. To obtain the design tools, the teams and students had to earn a corresponding amount of lucky money by participating in and winning traditional games. These games were set up in three areas: the Father's House, the Mother's House, and the Teacher's House. Teams and students could use their lucky money to exchange for design tools or meaningful New Year's gifts at the tool and gift booth. The final products of the teams – 16 giant greeting cards – were displayed and exhibited at the school afterward.

"Spring of Love" is the first time all students in the school have participated in games together, and it's even more meaningful because these are traditional folk games – a beautiful tradition that seems to belong only to the past. Names like: Tug of War, Carrying the Palanquin and Reciting Poetry, Three-Star Game, Releasing the Leech, O An Quan (a traditional board game), Capture the Flag, Dragon and Snake,... for many students, this is their first time experiencing these games. 21 folk games with different experiences not only bring carefree moments and refreshing laughter, not only provide an opportunity for students to bond and connect, but more importantly, these games revive a traditional cultural space of the nation.

In addition to the three folk games areas, Spring of Love 2015 also features a "Spring Volunteer" area where you can join artisans in hand-molding colorful and uniquely shaped clay figurines to give to children, or wear traditional costumes of ethnic groups from all over the country... The money raised from these activities will be used for the "Spring Volunteer" program at the social welfare center.

After more than three hours of intense effort, 16 giant greeting cards were displayed by the participating teams in the main stage area of the program. Generally, the teams used familiar images of the traditional Lunar New Year such as firecrackers, green sticky rice cakes, apricot blossoms, peach blossoms, swallows… but each team had its own unique idea and message. The Political Science Faculty Student Union took inspiration from the red envelope with the theme "Tet Reunion," emphasizing the meaning of Tet as a time for the whole family to gather after a year of hard work and study. The Linguistics Faculty Student Union focused on Tet for the poor, wishing for a warmer and more prosperous Tet for those in difficult circumstances. The Management Science Faculty Student Union presented the characteristics of Tet from both the North and South with the golden apricot blossoms and vibrant peach blossoms, hoping for a Tet that unites all regions of the country. The Journalism and Communication Faculty Student Union chose the colors of spring and Tet (Vietnamese New Year) – the green of banh chung (traditional rice cake), symbolizing new life; the pink of peach blossoms; the yellow of apricot blossoms; the red of firecrackers and lanterns, representing loving hearts as spring arrives. In addition, the teams highlighted the calligraphy art in their greeting cards. The Archival and Office Management Faculty Student Union chose the character "Nhân" (humanity/benevolence), conveying the message that each of us, big or small, rich or poor, should always retain the virtue of "Nhân" within ourselves. The Psychology Faculty Student Union chose the character "An" (peace/tranquility), wishing for a peaceful and prosperous new year for all families…

More than just smiles, "Spring of Love" brought Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) closer to the students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, reviving the traditional cultural spaces of the nation right here. It was also an opportunity for students to express their feelings, convey messages, and offer wishes for the upcoming new year.
