The closing ceremony for the 4th cohort and the opening ceremony for the 5th cohort of the Screenwriting and Film Criticism Training Program of the Faculty of Literature, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, took place on October 31, 2009.
Attending the closing ceremony on behalf of the school was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Gia Lam - Vice Rector. Many famous names in Vietnamese cinema, who are also teachers of the program, were present at the ceremony, such as director Dang Nhat Minh, director Pham Nhue Giang, screenwriter Phan Dang Di...
According to Professor Tran Hinh, head of the film project, the 4th cohort, which ran from November 2008 to October 2009, was the most diverse cohort in terms of student composition. Not only did the students come from many different regions of the country, but their backgrounds were also very diverse. Some had no prior experience in filmmaking, others had received film training, some were recent university graduates, some were government officials, and others came from technical fields. Starting with 38 students, 26 have now completed their graduation theses and received certificates from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Immediately after the completion of their theses, two short film projects, two research projects, and one translation project from the 4th cohort received scholarships from the program for implementation.

The film project, funded by the Ford Foundation, began in 2005. Course 4 marked the start of Phase 2 of the project. Compared to the first three courses, Course 4 was considered an advanced program. In addition to remaining true to its original goal of training a generation of internationally-class film writers, Course 4 also included many activities that provided students with real-world opportunities to practice the profession, with the provision and use of numerous filming and editing equipment for the first time. Students began creating their own works using the equipment provided in the classroom. This was also the first course to organize a summer film festival.
After four training courses, three project participants are continuing their graduate studies at the California State University of Film and Television. Many episodes scripted by project participants have been broadcast on television, and numerous professional film articles have been published in newspapers and magazines. Most importantly, according to Professor Tran Hinh, a film environment is gradually being formed within the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Another notable result of the project is the establishment of an Art Studies department within the Faculty of Literature at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In the future, the University intends to develop a graduate program specializing in Art Studies.
Course 5 had 34 students, studying from November 2009 to October 2010.
