On November 19, 2012, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities solemnly organized a ceremony to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20, 1982 - November 20, 2012).Attending the ceremony were Professor Phan Huu Dat – Chairman of the Association of Retired Teachers of Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Professor Vu Duong Ninh – Chairman of the Association of Retired Teachers of the University; Professor Phung Huu Phu – Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Associate Professor Nguyen Kim Son – Vice Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi; along with generations of veteran teachers, former leaders of the University, and staff, faculty, and students of the University. On behalf of the University leadership, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh – Rector of the University – congratulated and expressed gratitude to the veteran teachers of all periods. At the ceremony, the Rector also reviewed the outstanding achievements in various aspects of the University's activities during the 2011-2012 academic year. Specifically: Regarding training: The University completed on schedule the adjustment of 22 undergraduate training programs and 61 postgraduate training programs according to output standards. Simultaneously, the university developed and approved five new training programs to meet societal needs, including Southeast Asian Studies, Public Relations, Anthropology, Film Arts, and American Studies. The number of full-time students graduating early increased fivefold compared to the previous academic year; the percentage of students achieving good or excellent grades in the past academic year exceeded 90%. Postgraduate enrollment continued to expand; the proportion of postgraduate students at the university accounted for over 35% of the total full-time student body. Regarding scientific research: in the past academic year, the university completed the acceptance of nearly 70 research projects, including 2 state-level projects and protocols. The university also collaborated with domestic and international partners to successfully organize 26 scientific seminars/workshops, including 17 international ones. Faculty members published 14 books and nearly 600 articles in journals and at scientific conferences. In addition, the University has signed 10 new cooperation agreements with universities in Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Iran, Thailand, China, Taiwan, etc., bringing the total number of international partners to 152. Particularly in the past academic year, many collectives and individuals of the University's staff and students were awarded prestigious titles and prizes: 2 teachers received the Ho Chi Minh Prize from the President; 3 teachers received the State Prize for Science and Technology; 1 teacher was awarded the Second Class Independence Medal and 1 teacher was awarded the First Class Labor Medal; and 3 teachers were awarded the title of Excellent Teacher.

The Rector emphasized that in the 2012-2013 academic year, the University will focus on rapidly developing a qualified teaching staff; continuing to expand internationally accredited programs and high-quality joint programs to quickly internationalize and improve the quality of education. Simultaneously, it will conduct research and create high-quality scientific products; and innovate the management and operation of units and the University according to advanced university management methods… Professor Vu Duong Ninh – Chairman of the University's Retired Teachers Association – expressed his joy and pride in the achievements of the University in the past year. The Professor affirmed that the Retired Teachers Association and the teachers, even though retired, continue to contribute actively to the University's undergraduate and postgraduate training activities with responsibility and passion. Associate Professor Pham Xuan Hang – former Rector of the University – also shared memories of the hard work of generations of teachers from the early days of the University's establishment to the present. Associate Professor Pham Xuan Hang expressed his wish that the faculty and students of the University would continue to uphold the thousand-year tradition of education, discover and cultivate talents with profound knowledge, solid skills, and proactive and creative abilities to serve the people and the Fatherland.
