The 2012 Faculty and Student Singing Contest, themed "Singing about the borderlands and islands of our homeland," organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, was a resounding success on November 17, 2012, at the Me Tri Dormitory Cultural Center. The competition was an opportunity for faculty and students of the university to showcase their cultural and artistic traditions, their love for their homeland, and their support for the soldiers who are guarding the country's borders and islands day and night. It was also a practical activity to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20th. Seventeen participating units performed Vietnamese songs authorized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the theme of borders and islands, using various forms such as solo, duet, trio, group, and choir performances. Each faculty and department participated in the competition; the Trade Unions I, II, and III of the Rectorate and the 2+2 student classes were a separate unit. Each unit had at least two performances and a maximum of 15 minutes to present their program. The judging panel for this year's competition included: Meritorious Artist Bich Viet, Vietnam Artists Association – Head of the Judging Panel; Artist Van Vuong, Vietnam Artists Association; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu – Vice Rector of the University. 45 entries from 17 units brought to the competition a colorful array of performances with diverse emotions. The competition contributed to expanding the exchange environment between staff and students, enriching cultural and spiritual life, and honoring the teacher-student relationship, solidarity in work and study, and working together to build a more developed university. Ultimately, the Faculty of Information and Library Science won first prize for the group performance. The organizing committee also selected 5 outstanding performances to be showcased at the Vietnamese Teachers' Day celebration on the morning of November 19, 2012.
