The international scientific conference on the theme "Inequality in Development: Problems and Solutions for East Asian and Southeast Asian Countries," organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with Stockholm University (Sweden), was held over three days from November 22 to 24, 2012.The conference was attended by professors and scientists from universities both domestically and internationally (Australia, Sweden, Germany, the USA, Norway), along with lecturers and students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In his opening remarks, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh – Rector of the University – emphasized: We are living in a process of globalization, regionalization, and deep international integration in all fields, from economics, politics, culture to society and security. In this process, alongside the advantages and positive aspects, nations and peoples face numerous risks, challenges, and paradoxes, including the issue of inequality in development. It is hoped that this conference will form an interdisciplinary network on the issue of inequality in development, primarily in East Asia and Southeast Asia, with the participation of experts from relevant scientific fields from various countries.

At the conference, international and Vietnamese scholars and scientists shared experiences and research findings on the issue of inequality in development, with particular emphasis on the characteristics and experiences of addressing this issue in countries around the world and in Vietnam. The presentations focused on clarifying theoretical and methodological issues related to the study of inequality in development. They also highlighted the characteristics, causes, manifestations, and trends of inequality in developing and developed countries in the context of globalization; and the current situation and experiences of countries in East Asia and Southeast Asia in addressing inequality in development.
