1. History

The predecessor institution of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi was the Faculty of Literature, Hanoi (established by Decree No. 45 signed by President Ho Chi Minh on October 10, 1945), followed by the University of Hanoi (established on June 5, 1956). On December 10, 1993, the Prime Minister issued Decree 97/CP establishing the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, which included the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, founded on the basis of the social science faculties of the University of Hanoi. For over sixty years of development, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has always been considered by the Vietnamese government as the largest center for training and research in social sciences and humanities in the country, tasked with training a high-level workforce of basic science personnel to serve the cause of national construction and defense. The school's achievements in training and scientific research are demonstrated through the following titles: First-Class Labor Medal (1981), First-Class Independence Medal (2001), Hero of Labor during the Renovation Period (2005), Ho Chi Minh Medal (2010); 8 teachers were awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and 13 teachers were awarded the State Prize for Science and Technology; 25 teachers were awarded the title of People's Teacher and 56 teachers were awarded the title of Excellent Teacher.

Loyalty and pioneering spirit, standards and creativity are the core traditional values ​​of the school, always preserved and promoted by generations of faculty and students.
