The closing ceremony and certificate awarding for 23 students of the 5th course in screenwriting and film criticism – a collaborative training program between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Ford Foundation – took place on November 26th.It is known that the 5th course of the screenwriting and film criticism training project officially commenced on November 3, 2009, with 31 students selected from various universities and training institutions nationwide. To date, after one year of study, 23 students have completed their graduation theses and received certificates from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Compared to the previous four courses, the 5th course has the largest number of graduating students. Students from the 5th course also published the highest number of issues of the "Film News Briefs" magazine: 19 issues. In addition, students from this course have completed 5 short film projects. Furthermore, 2 translation projects are also being continued by the students. The Film Project, funded by the Ford Foundation, began in 2005 and offers a free 10-month course each year to develop talents in screenwriting, film and television criticism in Vietnam. In the 2010-2011 academic year, the sixth and final cohort of the film project funded by the Ford Foundation will conclude. Following this, it is highly likely that a new major – Film Studies – will be established at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, building upon the results of the years-long collaborative training program between the University and the Ford Foundation.
