On November 21, 2010, the 15th Anniversary Celebration of the Faculty of International Studies (1995-2010) was held with the participation of over 500 delegates including teachers, students, and alumni of the Faculty of International Studies, representatives from Hanoi National University, leaders of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and its faculties and departments, partners from the Diplomatic Academy, the Institute of International Relations of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, institutes of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Foreign Affairs Journal of the Central Committee for Foreign Affairs and other universities.Notably, the festival was also attended by international guests representing the European Commission Delegation, the Embassies of Canada, Indonesia, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Venezuela, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, representatives from the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation… and many other agencies and organizations. Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh, Head of the Faculty of International Studies, emphasized: “Fifteen years is not a long time, but the Faculty of International Studies has initially built a solid foundation, affirmed its position in the regional and international research community, and determined a long-term, stable, and sustainable development direction.” Congratulating the Faculty of International Studies on this important event, the Vice Rector of the University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim expressed his wish: “The Faculty of International Studies will continue to further develop its achievements and strengths to focus on building a number of high-quality training and scientific research programs, and continue to improve the three-level training program: Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of International Studies.” On behalf of the European Commission Delegation in Vietnam, Mr. Andrea Rossi, First Secretary in charge of science and education issues, highly appreciated the activities of the Faculty of International Studies over the past 15 years, congratulated the Faculty on receiving funding from the European Commission for the project “Improving the quality of training in European Studies” and pledged to continue to support the Faculty of International Studies in the coming stages. In his welcoming speech to the Faculty of International Studies, Romanian Ambassador Dumitru Olaru expressed his pleasure at attending the Faculty's anniversary celebration, especially as Vietnam and Romania are commemorating 60 years of diplomatic relations. He emphasized that Romania has trained over 4,000 Vietnamese students in the past and expressed his desire to continue providing scholarships for Vietnamese students to study in Romania. Notably, the Ambassador's speech was translated into Vietnamese by Dr. Le The Que, a former student who studied in Romania. Sharing his feelings at the Faculty's 15th anniversary celebration, Professor Vu Duong Ninh, the first Dean, stated that, alongside many factors contributing to the Faculty's success, "The spiritual and intellectual efforts of the teachers have always been a shining example for the younger generation, and the effectiveness of their tireless dedication has built an increasingly spacious and solid foundation for the Faculty of International Studies."
After 15 years of establishment and development, from a newly established training unit, the Faculty of International Studies has now become a reliable and high-quality training institution. The current faculty staff comprises over 20 people, organized into three specialized departments: International Relations, European Studies, and American Studies. The majority are young, have received overseas training, and possess strong professional skills and foreign language proficiency. Particularly in the context of international integration, 100% of the staff are proficient in English or another foreign language, with some even proficient in two or three languages. In terms of training, the Faculty of International Studies has produced over 2,000 graduates, providing a workforce for international studies and foreign affairs, meeting the urgent needs of the country during the period of reform and opening up. Scientific research and international cooperation are the outstanding characteristics of the Faculty of International Studies. Faculty members have published 300 articles in domestic and international scientific journals, over 90 textbooks and reference books, and have been conducting 72 scientific research projects and presenting hundreds of scientific reports at national and international conferences. In addition, the Faculty has established close and effective partnerships with many universities and international organizations such as: the University of Oregon, the University of California (USA), the Ford Foundation, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (Germany), the Asia Foundation, etc.
