With the aim of expressing and sharing students' feelings about the lives and thoughts of women who make a living by selling goods from their street stalls, from October 20th to November 7th, 2008, the Youth Union - Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Vietnam Women's Museum jointly organized a photo, essay, and reportage contest with the theme "Hanoi Street Vendors".
With the aim of expressing and sharing students' feelings about the lives and thoughts of women who make a living by selling goods from their street stalls, from October 20th to November 7th, 2008, the Youth Union - Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Vietnam Women's Museum jointly organized a photo, essay, and reportage contest with the theme "Hanoi Street Vendors".
The competition is open to students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Science (Vietnam National University, Hanoi). The competition encourages young people to develop their creativity and express their most subtle and genuine feelings about a familiar phenomenon in Hanoi's socio-cultural life from various perspectives: its beauty and cultural aspects; the struggles and hardships of making a living; the inevitable transformation of street vendors in modern society; and suggestions and contributions from young people to the city's policy planning surrounding this social phenomenon...
1. Content
- Focusing on portraying the lives of street vendors in Hanoi (cultural aspects, changes, business activities, family life, income, expenses, accommodation, sharing, social relationships, etc.)
2. Form
2.1. Article
+ The article should be under 1000 words, neatly presented on A4 paper (handwritten on one side only).
+ The article must be the author's own work and not have been previously published in any mass media. The information in the article must be factual; if writing about a person, their name, age, and address must be included.
The author of the article is fully responsible to the Organizing Committee for copyright and information contained in the article.
2.2. Photojournalism
Each photo essay must contain a minimum of 5 photos for a chosen theme.
+ Photos must be captioned (the caption doesn't need to be too long).
+ The person in the photo must have complete personal information such as: name, age, what they sell, and address. If the photo is of a group selling goods, a precise address is required so that the organizers can contact the person in the photo (when necessary).
+ For photos that have not been published in newspapers or on television, the author is fully responsible to the Organizing Committee for copyright issues.
+ We encourage you to submit photos digitally to the Organizing Committee. If you choose to print photos, they must be 10x15cm in size and include the original film.
2.3. Documentary Films
The minimum video length is 5 minutes.
+ Authentic and vivid content, featuring the voices of the characters, buyers, sellers, etc., including interviews with the characters.
The characters must be real, with complete personal information about each character.
The film has not yet been released to any media outlets. The author is responsible for the copyright of the work.
3. Eligible participants
All students from both schools:
University of Social Sciences and Humanities
University of Natural Sciences.
Each category has no limit on the number or format of entries.

+ 2 Second Prizes: 300,000 VND/prize
+ 2 Third Prizes: 200,000 VND/prize
+ 3 Consolation Prizes: 100,000 VND/prize
Along with a certificate of merit from the Vietnam Women's Museum.
2. Photojournalism
+ 1st Prize: 400,000
+ 2 Second Prizes: 300,000 VND/prize
+ 2 Third Prizes: 200,000 VND/prize

* The winning articles, images, and documentaries will be displayed at the Vietnam Women's Museum and will have the opportunity to be featured on television.
* Authors whose works win awards will have the opportunity to directly participate in the exhibition's staging at the Vietnam Women's Museum.
