On March 21, 2012, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Rector) along with the leaders of the Faculty of Sociology and the Department of Social Work met and worked with Professor Tatsuru Akimoto (President of the Asia-Pacific Association for Social Work Education) and professors and scientists from Shukutoku University (Japan).During this visit, the Japanese professors participated in the scientific seminar "Buddhism and Social Work" held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. At the seminar, the professors and scientists exchanged and discussed the main contents of the cooperation program between the two sides: research stages, objectives, and scope. The collaborative research project on "Social Work and Buddhism" will study Buddhism in social work in countries with similar social contexts: Vietnam, Japan, etc., aiming to analyze the achievements and identify limitations in social welfare activities in both countries. Simultaneously, it will develop solutions and provide advice for Buddhism to carry out social work activities more effectively.

The project is expected to be implemented from April 2012 to June 2013 with two research groups: the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Shukutoku University, and the coordinating agency being the Asia-Pacific Association for Social Work Education.
