On March 21, 2012, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Principal) and leaders of the Faculty of Sociology and Department of Social Work received and worked with Professor Tatsuru Akimoto (President of the Asia-Pacific Association for Social Work Education) and professors and scientists from Shukutoku University (Japan).During this visit and working session, Japanese professors attended the scientific seminar “Buddhism and social work” held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. At the seminar, professors and scientists exchanged and discussed the main contents of the cooperation program between the two sides: research stages, objectives, and scope of research. The collaborative research project on “Social work and Buddhism” will study Buddhism in social work in countries with similar social contexts: Vietnam, Japan, etc. to analyze the achievements and point out the limitations in social welfare activities of the two countries. At the same time, it will develop solutions and advise Buddhism to carry out social work activities more effectively.

The project is expected to be implemented from April 2012 to June 2013 with two research groups: the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Shukutoku University, and the connecting agency is the Asia-Pacific Association for Social Work Education.
