The 29th Congress of the University's Trade Union was a great success.

Over two days, March 23-24, 2012, the 29th Congress of the University's Trade Union, for the term 2012-2014, was successfully held with the participation of 118 delegates representing 460 union members throughout the University.Attending the congress were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Cong Phong – Chairman of the Vietnam Education Trade Union, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Kim Dinh – Chairman of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh – Rector of the University, and representatives from the Trade Unions of universities in Hanoi: University of Natural Sciences, University of Technology, University of Civil Engineering, National Economics University, etc. The 29th Congress of the University's Trade Union aimed to evaluate the implementation of the resolutions of the 28th Congress for the 2009-2012 term, set forth directions for activities in the 2012-2014 term, and elect the new Executive Committee of the University's Trade Union. The conference heard reports on the results of the internal session held on March 23, 2012; reports of the Executive Committee of the University's Trade Union for the 2009-2012 term and directions for work in the 2012-2014 term; The reports included the review report of the University's Trade Union Executive Committee for the 2009-2012 term and the report on comments on the draft documents for the 4th Congress of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union. All reports affirmed that the Trade Union had achieved quite comprehensive results in the past term. Political and ideological work was maintained. Leaders and union members gained a deeper understanding of the University's role and position in the new development phase. The Trade Union actively participated in the development of internal expenditure regulations, ensuring transparency in policies, rewards, and penalties, and protecting the legitimate interests of employees… With these results, during the past term, the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was awarded many prestigious prizes: the Second Class Labor Medal, Certificates of Merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (2010, 2011), and many other awards.

In addition, the report also highlighted some limitations during the past term: the trade unions in some units lacked activities demonstrating coordination with the government in professional work; the trade unions in some units were not proactive and timely in submitting opinions to the Party committee on building a team of trade union officials; and the evaluation and reward work of some departmental trade unions was slow. The direction and tasks of trade union work for the 29th term are outlined with the action slogan: "Unity - Democracy - Creativity - Effectiveness". The key tasks that need to be implemented effectively are:

• Continue to innovate and improve the quality and effectiveness of political and ideological education and propaganda work, promote emulation movements, and build a team of politically sound and professionally competent staff to meet the development requirements of the School in the new development phase.
• Encourage union members to actively participate in union activities, training and improving their professional skills and expertise; promote the implementation of strategic tasks; and complete scientific research projects on time and decisively.
• Effectively fulfill the function of representing, caring for the lives and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members, and promoting social and charitable activities.
• Focus on women's affairs and promote cultural and sports activities.
• Continue to innovate the content and methods of trade union activities, build strong trade unions at all levels, and participate in building the Party.

Speaking at the congress, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Cong Phong – President of the Vietnam Education Trade Union – highly appreciated the results of the activities of the Trade Union Executive Committee of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The President of the Vietnam Education Trade Union outlined the tasks that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities Trade Union needs to focus on implementing effectively in the next term: further strengthening the representative role of the trade union organization; continuing to implement effective forms and content for the emulation movement of the sector; developing solutions to improve the material and spiritual lives of union members; and innovating the working methods of the trade union to make its activities more effective…

On behalf of the Party Committee and the School's Board of Directors, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh congratulated and commended the achievements of the Trade Union and the School's Trade Union Executive Committee during the past term. The Rector expressed confidence that the Trade Union would continue to strive, be proactive and creative, working together with the Board of Directors and other organizations in the school to motivate all staff and students to exploit and develop all resources and strengths to build and develop the school. The 29th Congress of the School's Trade Union Delegates was successfully concluded: it elected a Trade Union Executive Committee for the 2012-2014 term consisting of 15 members, and elected 26 delegates to attend the 4th Congress of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union. 100% of the delegates voted to approve the Draft Resolution of the Congress.
